Republicans got it right: Taxes are bad.
Oh what an unduly plight and burden they are. Honest, hardworking men and women betrayed, the fruits of their toil taken away from them by their rulers. And the biggest injustice of all? 47% of the populace don't pay taxes and the additional weight is yours to shoulder.
My, my, what horrible times we live in.
Taxes, sucking money out of your pockets, more than you can... afford.
That's the word: afford
We always hear the argument "I shouldn't pay taxes because I'm a job-creator or something like that."
We never hear the argument "I can't afford to pay more taxes or I'll go broke."
Why is that?
Why are republicans never complaining that a particular part of the population can't afford to pay taxes? Sure, they say taxing rich people will discourage investment and so forth, but they never mention whether rich people COULD pay more taxes.
And poor people?
Well, someone has to make up for the lost revenue.
So, next time a republican says that taxes are bad and entitlements too high, just reframe the debate: Ask who can afford to pay taxes and to go without entitlements and who can't afford to pay taxes and to go without entitlements.
