provided the link. The other story was in Akron and wasn't on the local news broadcast, I didn't read the entire homepage.

a 92 year old woman's home, rape, murder and rob her. If she would have been armed perhaps she would be alive yet today.

7. And here's where risk management comes in, but hits a wall of no data

We really have no idea how often or effectively guns are used defensively, and it's hard to even imagine a way to compile those data (though who knows, maybe the CDC will be able to now). We do have pretty good data on how often guns end up being used in suicides and homicides, or injure people accidentally. It's hard to do risk management when you have the data for Type I but not Type II.
