Reuters - Texas woman who killed neighbor to die in rare execution

AUSTIN, Texas (Reuters) - Kimberly McCarthy is scheduled to be executed by lethal injection in Texas on Tuesday, the first woman to be put to death in the United States in more than two years, for the stabbing murder of her neighbor in 1997.

Women are rarely executed in the United States. Only 12 female inmates were put to death since capital punishment was reinstated by the Supreme Court in 1976, according to the Death Penalty Information Center.

The last woman executed was Teresa Lewis in Virginia on September 23, 2010, the information center said.

"Although women commit about 10 percent of murders, capital cases also require some aggravating factor like rape, robbery, or physical abuse," said Richard Dieter, executive director of the information center, adding that women usually have not committed a long list of prior felonies.

1. Capital punishment is wrong, no matter the sex of the criminal.

Life in PUBLIC prison, without possibility of parole is what should happen.

My state is one that has a long history of no death penalty. Michigan. I am very proud of that.

I lived in another state with such a history for eighteen years. Kansas. Then, Gov Joan Finney let the death penalty law go into effect without her signature. I was a Democratic state delegate at the time and we begged her to veto it. She looked me in the face and said, "I can't do it." My response was, "Of course you can; you just won't." It didn't change her mind.

Finney was a Democrat. She was a catholic and apparently religious. Those arguments didn't do any good either. Thus, KS got the death penalty because a spineless act. Fortunately, it has yet to be applied.

I am back in Michigan now.

And even had a Dem majority in the legislature. Michael "Tom" Sawyer was majority leader, a great guy. I lived there when it all collapsed. Dan Glickman lost his seat to that do nothing back bencher, Todd Tiahrt. We knew then that the state was going kinda crazy with religion.

The Sedgwick County Republican newsletter read like a Jack Chick religious tract. Jesus this... Christ that...

I hope you guys are upholding your end in the battle.

even if it's "small" stuff, it's important to keep going, to not let there be nothing of the truth.

There should be some other practice which takes a wrong an does something POSITIVE. The idea of killing for justice is WRONG. letting public servants KILL people because someone gave the cop a gun is WRONG. Each concern should be evaluated and the correct punishment should be given to ensure JUSTICE IS SERVED.

Next they will begin DEATH RACES or DEATH FIGHTS
