Okay, I don't know if the quote is genuine (couldnt resist the temptation), but the story certainly is.
Woman accidentally shoots fiance at Florida gun range
Man expected to survive; No charges filed
"MYAKKA CITY, Fla. - Authorities in Manatee County say no charges will be filed against a woman who accidentally shot her fiancé in the leg at a gun range.
The couple was with a large group shooting at Manatee Gun and Archery Club in Myakka City on Saturday afternoon.
The sheriff's office report said a casing flew from the woman's gun and landed inside her blouse, causing her to flinch. She bent over to get the casing out of her blouse when the gun accidentally fired.
The bullet hit the man in his right thigh, passing through his leg. He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries."

(12,723 posts)she at least would have been ticketed. Why do "accidents" with guns not have criminal consequences so many times?

(4,737 posts)I know a girl who t-boned another car after a yellowjacket blew in the window and stung her; no citation there. Her insurance was a different matter, but there were no *legal* sanctions. I'm sure if it weren't her fiancé there would be some kind of civil litigation going on..

(142 posts)A blouse or any sort of clothing that can be open in the front are not ideal for shooting handguns.

(68,644 posts)No, more likely the woman let her finger remain on the trigger while she bent over.
The gun didn't do anything accidentally, the untrained woman fired it.
Funny, I was just watching these other guns having accidents:

(4,737 posts)I still have a small scar under my right titty from an errant .45 shell; I'm not entirely excusing irresponsibility here but the HOLYFUCKTHATHURTSOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOW is a major factor - I just dropped the gun before flailing around wildly, who knows what might have happened otherwise.
PS - I love that video, it never gets old

(18,492 posts)it may have been a group with novice shooters. In cases like that there needs to be 1 on 1 pairing with an experienced shooter when a novice has a gun in their possession. The experienced person has to be ready to take physical control if the novice does something unsafe, like pointing the gun in an unsafe direction after being hit with hot brass.
Good thing he will recover.

(1,273 posts)to wear high collars and baseball hats when shooting. Otherwise hot brass will find its way down your shirt, and when people are dancing around with their finger on the trigger of a loaded gun, bad things happen.
