PPP: Hillary would beat Rick Perry today, 50-42... in Texas

One of the good things about PPP, aside from having the best polls in 2012, is their willingness to poll on odd but interesting things, like how the idea of Hillary 2016 looks in Texas.

Heh, heh. The poll is worth it just for the thought of Rick Perry opening the paper (okay... turning on the TV.. okay, having an aide turn on the TV for him...) and seeing himself losing big to any Dem in Texas.

It is easy to see why Hillary would lead Rubio, given her higher name recognition. But if Perry lacks name recognition in Texas... well, it speaks for itself.

At the risk of reading too deeply into a race that is a little less than four years away, a poll released Thursday suggested that Hillary Clinton could carry the crimson red state of Texas in the 2016 presidential election.

The latest survey from Democratic-leaning Public Policy Polling showed Clinton essentially tied with Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ). She topped Rubio by a single point in the hypothetical matchup, 46 percent to 45 percent, and by only 2 points over Christie, 45 percent to 43 percent. But Texas voters gave Clinton an even wider edge over their own Republican governor and former presidential candidate, Rick Perry, 50 percent to 42 percent. Fifty percent of Lone Star State voters said they have a favorable opinion of Clinton, compared with 43 percent who view her unfavorably.

A Democrat has not carried Texas in a presidential election since former President Jimmy Carter won the state in 1976.

3. Depends on who you are. If you happen to be the person planning to primary Perry, it's pretty useful

Which is what all this hoopla is all about. It's the beginning of the end of Rick Perry in Texas as they keep producing polls showing how vulnerable he is in Texas.

PPP was paid to do a job and they did it, I don't blame them to be clear.

8. Sorry, I like information.

And I am quite competent to vet information... to factor in things like that the election is years away and such.

But the information that 50% of Texans tell someone on the phone, on a given day, that they would take Hillary over Perry is actually useful information.

It increases one's overall understanding of the world.

And nobody is being forced at gunpoint to read the story.

I think he's more likely than Perry to run for president.

Of course, our governor is pretty lame. He/She gets to talk (and potentially embarrass the hell out of us), but otherwise, he/she can't do a whole lot of damage.
