he was the most liberal Senator in the Senate and is now Governor of Minnesota. He's rich though, and I am always sorta leery of a rich person really representing the working class.

The thing is, if Hillary runs, I don't see anybody beating her. Dayton is from neighboring Minnesota so might do okay in Iowa, but Minnesota and Iowa don't exactly get along either.

I am not aware of what he is doing in Minnesota, but when I tried to think of somebody acceptable, his name came up.

If she ends up as the Democratic candidate and the republicans nominate their usual douchebag of course I will vote for her.

But if somebody better comes along on the Democratic side and they get the nomination then naturally I'll vote for them.

If I have to make a choice in a primary I'll wait and see who the choice is between.

It's fucking 2013 and I have a lot of other crap to think about. This may be a burning question to Chris Matthews and the rest of the beltway pundits but I don't really give a shit about it.

We have a Democratic President.
Democratic Senate.
He's putting together a new cabinet that includes two people who see Iraq and Afghanistan as the stupidest things ever.

So - let's put pressure on the one we've got to shove through anything and everything we can that is liberal and progressive.

I refuse to wait or to make the ones we've got worry about what might maybe someday happen if they do ANYTHING that helps America NOW in 2016, or 18, or 20.

Jan 2013

and in 1988, that was because Mike Dukakis, like a few others that followed him who were not numbered Presidents, ran a simply awful campaign he could have won.

Other than that, I can't recall any recent VP that directly was elected President and seated.

One would have to go back who knows how

Vice presidents who became presidents

from wiki-the free encyclopedia-
There have been 14 vice presidents who have become President of the United States.

John Adams, elected president in 1796.
Thomas Jefferson, elected president in 1800.
Martin Van Buren, elected President in 1836.
John Tyler, became president when William Henry Harrison died in office.
Millard Fillmore, became president when Zachary Taylor died in office.
Andrew Johnson, became president when Abraham Lincoln was assassinated in office.
Chester A. Arthur, became president when James A. Garfield was assassinated in office.
Theodore Roosevelt, became president when William McKinley was assassinated in office.
Calvin Coolidge, became president when Warren G. Harding died in office.
Harry S Truman, became president when Franklin D. Roosevelt died in office.
Lyndon B. Johnson, became president when John F. Kennedy was assassinated in office.
Richard Nixon, elected president in 1968. He is the only person on this list who was not serving as vice president when he became president.
Gerald Ford, became president in 1974 when Richard Nixon resigned.
George H. W. Bush, elected President in 1988.

and Joe as VP for a third term would make him the single longest/greatest VP ever.

My vote is already placed.

year after year, it was that order.

Biden should run to block any notgonnabees from disrupting

and Edwards (the #1 worst vp choice ever***(because Palin was just over her head, and Quayle served a specific purpose for 41 IMHO, but Edwards was just horrendous choice),and proved that never again should someone with ambition for a future #1, be #2 because it could hurt the actual running of the country

IMHO
feel free to disagree.

and as history has proven, VP is not a place to think about the future anyhow.

anything for the continuation of the President Obama agenda, and why wouldn't Joe Biden want to do it?
He certainly is not retiring, though SOS would be a place too if President elect at that time Clinton wanted to do that, but VP is perfect in this case (as President Obama naming Joe was perfect in 2008, and naming President to be Clinton SOS was.

I also don't think he and the Clintons are close, are they? Obama and Biden have a special friendship and special trust.

I said fresh, young blood. Not some whippersnapper looking to make a name for himself (although s/he would certainly be doing that). The person would have to have national experience. It's not easy running on the Presidential ticket. It's brutal. Ask Rick Perry!

I thought Edwards wasn't a good choice, also. But there were good reasons to choose him, not the least of which was he had a huge following and built in votes. It wasn't Edwards who lost that election for Kerry. In fact, Edwards wanted to fight the Ohio count. Who knows what would've happened, had he prevailed in that decision?

Thu Jan 31, 2013, 11:01 PM
Jan 2013

to further the agenda of President Obama, that VP Biden is part of.

They are all part of Team Obama to use a term kids say these days

Choosing Edwards was as vapid as McCain choosing Sarah.

the thing with bad mistakes is not to look backward, but look forward and use the slogan Never Again.
Never again a John Edwards, Sarah Palin or Dan Quayle.(but I will always believe Quayle was picked as a mirror image to W, and made W easier to accept, so he had a reason.

Edwards might not have lost the election,
But there is a good analogy-
Should have been Bob Graham
But that ageism healthism boringism obsessiveism thing

Bob Graham would have won it.

I personally don't get why people today think people are bored or tired with jobs.
Ted Kennedy served in the senate 40 years. Lautenberg, after retiring, came back as Senator and is still going strong in the last two years of his term.

The VP is the second most important postition in the world, and less than 90 people have been president or VP, all are immortal.
Out of billions of people, less than 90.

There is NO shame in being VP.
Being the longest running VP would make Joe Biden the 45th highest ranking person in US history(as Hillarywould be 45,that would make her the 44th different, then Joe

and there is NO constitutional limit to a VP term.

Keep on beating that horse. It's probably not dead, yet.

New faces. Fresh Blood. Someone under the age of 70 on at least half the ticket. Unless you like young voters just not showing up out of sheer apathy, that is. Losing elections isn't too fun, though...Just ask Palin (who is, shockingly, not the worst VP candidate ever? WTF? Have you heard her speak? Ever?) So...2 1/2 years from now, once the mid terms are past and we have the time to dedicate to looking seriously at all the REAL candidates (y'know, the ones that aren't already retired from politics or otherwise disinterested in running) lets take it one step at a time. Win the House in 2014, first. There is nothing more important than that right now.

Actually right now, 100% amnesty, 100% citizenship 100% voting rights is more important than 2014
Actually, right now 100% guns off the street is more important

but I can multi-task

But keep up with that ageism crap.
Ageism is the same as any other ism.
Any other bad stereotype.

Getting some pimpled faced Paul Ryan, yeah, that's the ticket as Tommy Flanagan used to say.
Getting some grease in hair $400 haircut, Chuckie look a like, yeah, that's the ticket.

If I want some Chuckie, I will put on a little Rickie Lee Jones, thank you.
Last I heard Chuckie is still in love.

But I don't want the $400 haircut fraud or anything like him ever again.
I am Jewish. The Phrase Never Again resonates with me.
John Edwards.Paul Ryan Never again.

BTW, keep spewing the ageism.
I know alot of those 45 and over who haven't worked the job they used to be in
Because the new boss(some 20 year old out of school has a prejudice, and canned
anyone over 45 because well, they are just about got one foot in the grave.
So keep up with that ageism crap.

and you are right, losing elections suck.
There have been 44 Presidential winners.
Anyone not seated is a loser if the other party took office.

And in 1992, it took a Clinton to defeat a Bush.
Jeb Bush will be the republican nominee, and guess what, I don't want to lose
It takes a Clinton to defeat a Bush.
And it takes a village of Clinton's/Obama's/Biden's to defeat the village of Bush's.

Hey, Jeb kicked Rubio's ass yesterday on immigration.
Bill kicked Jeb's father's ass in 1992.
Hillary will kick Jeb's ass in 2016.
Hillary45.
Michelle46.

I bet not one of the people that says "no to another Clinton or Bush" never said the same thing about Bobby Kennedy.

And I bet not one of the people who CLAIM they are progressives ever said that to Jerry Brown.

The old whippersnapper in California is sure doing a helleva job.
Glad the ageism people didn't force him into an old age home 20 years ago to get some
what was that stupid word you just used? "fresh blood".
Oh Yeah and California is eternally the state where people are always young.
Tanned fit and trim the whole year round.

And I bet in 1992, people who didn't like Bill and Hillary didn't use the ageism of Bill being too old. What a crock of spit.

(someone today(Friday) said Bill ruined America. Can you f'k'g believe someone thought Bill ruined America in 1992.
Helloooooooooooooooooooooooo, Hellooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Bill?
I mean, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, Bush41, Bush43, Jeb, Delay, Ralph Nader,
Ron Paul ruined America.
But someone saying Bill Clinton in 1992 ruined America?
Must be a Bush41 fan if you think Bill ruined America.
President Clinton. Looks great on my placemat of the presidents as 42.
Will look even better seeing President Clinton on my revised placemat in 2017 as President 45.
sheesh.

(don't mind me repeating myself, I am old after all...
ageism. I cannot believe that one keeps using that prejudicial line.
urghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

and btw, I am sure glad someone didn't tell Golda Meir she was too old. One of the greatest world leaders, male or female, the world ever knew.
sheeeshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

and I am glad Canada did not tell Pierre Trudeau when he came back later on, that he was too old.

and I am truly happy France did not tell Emmanuelle Riva to not act again because she was too old. I will be jumping up and down should Ms. Riva win the Academy Award 24 days from now. Though the movie is not a mass appeal movie, and probably most people have not seen it.
But the eternally young European world, all have honored Ms. Riva as best actress.
Yeah, sure they will give the award here in the US to Jennifer Lawrence,
But I stand and applaud Ms. Riva.
If Ms. Lawrence is still acting in ten years, let alone 50, I will at that time stand and applaud her.
BTW, what's your opinion of "Amour"?

But then what do I know. I just watched Jack Benny on Antenna TV an hour ago.

BTW you do realize Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren are just about the same age
as President HIllary45 Clinton and VP Biden don't you?

oops.

Me, I would happily vote for either for President.
However, I will go with the ticket that has the best chance of WINNING

Another mistake in the analogy btw you make in 2008 is
Sarah didn't help or hurt McCain's chances of winning.

President Obama (and if it had been Hillary) both would have kicked John McCain's ass.
Let me repeat myself (excuse me I am old, I do that),
PRESIDENT OBAMA WON IN 2008.
Nobody beat him. HE BEAT THEM.
and had it been Hillary44- HILLARY WOULD HAVE CREAMED MCCAIN.
McCain would NOT have beaten either of them.
It wasn't that McCain lost. He was the best candidate the republicans had.
However- he was NOT Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton.
The Democratic party had the best two candidates in 2008.Either was as good as the other.
But only one could win.
Hillary did not lose. And she would have made a fine VP.

However, to the genius of President Obama, the world had the single #1 greatest SOS of
all time.
It will be decades most likely before the world ever sees such a great SOS again.

And together, TEAM OBAMA (as the young ones use the term Team, I will to make my point)-
TEAM OBAMA will win again in 2016 and 2020.
Team Obama IS- President Obama SOS Hillary Clinton VP BIden, and
Team Obama is also Senator Elizabeth Warren.
They all play on the same team.
They are all teammates.
They are not against each other. They are playing to win and playing the 10 step ahead game of politics.

Together.
I am going to call my dj and make a dedication
enjoy

I think you must've responded to the wrong post. I never pushed them as candidates. Either, in their time, may have made great presidents, but not anymore. Nor did I advocate Paul Ryan ....and to equate any younger candidate with him is just as much "ageism", FYI. And a bad, bad strawman argument. And furthermore, never, ever did I say "Bill Clinton ruined America". Yeah...you really must've thought you were replying to a different post.

You should probably go back and delete that baffling blunderbuss barrage of bullshit, and try again.

One needs wider vision.

BTW, Ed Koch died today.
I will never forgive Mario & Andrew Cuomo for the smear against Koch.
Every local TV station is mentioning it.
So it is on record.
And unforgiveable.

(and no, you didn't mention Ed Koch.) But while I have your attention, thought I would mention it.

And I also hear there is a very racist commercial in the SuperBowl.
No, you didn't mention that either, so it has nothing to do with your answer.

edit to add-
here is the exact phrase on Warren and Sanders-
where did you get that it was something you said
I said "by the way"
BTW, and it was a question,
sheesh, nothing to do with you, but the phraseology of your request sounds like the citation askers on the gun threads.(again not referring to you "theked" here." I am just saying it sounds simliar to those arguments.

"BTW you do realize Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren are just about the same age
as President HIllary45 Clinton and VP Biden don't you?"

86. Tell you what

Feb 2013

If you wish to make general statements, don't do them here. Respond to the OP or make a new thread. If, instead, your intent was to imply my attatchment to certain (laughably erroneous) positions, kindly tell me to my face or piss off.

I don't know where this persona of the Clintons as mythical giant slayers comes from, honestly. Bill was a fine president, but without Perot he never would have been elected in 92. Hillary would have been a fine president, but she couldn't beat a one-term senator in a primary battle. You know what's great about the Democratic Party, though? We don't need elite families hand-picked to ascend to the throne. We can choose the best person for the job - whether that means a monied New York family of politicians, a lawyer from Arkansas, or a young black man from Chicago.

You know who can beat Jeb - should he even choose to run and should he win the nomination - in 2016? Anybody we want to beat Jeb. Because, candidate or not, Bill and Hillary will be in that campaign trail. Barack and Michelle will, too. So put away your bullshit mythology-to-be.

Here's a hypothetical question for you: when Hillary doesnt get the nod, if she decided to run as an independent...what would you do?

89. Hillary45. Though if one insists...Elizabeth,Deval,Vicky,Michelle,Cory, and wild card Chelsea
Fri Feb 1, 2013, 01:19 PM
Feb 2013

I will humor you

Elizabeth Warren,Deval Patrick, Vicky Kennedy, Michelle Obama,Cory Booker,
and

Joe Biden for VP for a third term for any of them.

If Joe don't want to be VP, I would love for Jerry Brown to achieve immortality doing so, or soon to be Florida Gov. Charlie Crist. Or Bob Graham.

It would of course have to be someone running as a democratic candidate for President.

Of course, if you insist on someone just qualifying age-
how about Chelsea Clinton (though 16 years from 2016 is more likely).
She would be 36 in 2016. Therefore qualified. But it is ludacrist to think that would happen

Were it 8 years later, I would definitely say Michelle, but 2024 is more like it.

IMHO the general public is cautious and in saying that, it is why, if history is going to be set again with Hillary45, then for the exact same reason President Obama took Joe Biden,
Hillary45 would take Joe Biden again.

*****
An outside very long shot would be, Christine Quinn if she wins the Mayor of New York in 2013.

and
I reserve the right to add one and only one person to be named later,
provided it was a Democratic candidate of course. History would also be made.
for President or VP.

anyone can beat Rand Paul or Paul Ryan or some other rightwing extremist.
Not everyone could beat Chris Christie.
And only Hillary45 can beat Jeb Bush.

All the others are unvetted. ALL OF THEM.
All of Hillary's dirt is out there.
All of Obama/Hillary's voters already have discarded ALL the dirt.

imho imho imho imho imho

we gotta win, and I want and hope HIllary45 nominates Barack Obama to the US Supreme Court in 2018, after a one year rest for him.
Supreme Court is where Barack Obama was born to reside for 20-30 years.

81. why?
Fri Feb 1, 2013, 09:12 AM
Feb 2013

Remember 1965, the greatest two events in modern history, when LBJ signed those acts,
took republicans to help, due to the George Wallace racist wing of the democratic party.

But knowing Hillary45 will continue President Obama's two terms, will indeed help in 2014

There are plenty who are lukewarm to her now. Second without the house regardless of Obama now Hillary or someone else in 2016 Congress will still be deadlocked. This is assuming we keep our hold in the Senate and don't lose that. Let's fight our battles one at a time the legislative branch needs to be where our focus is now.

32. Yes. First, because the Clintons are hugely responsible for Obama winning in 2012.
Thu Jan 31, 2013, 10:15 PM
Jan 2013

Second, because I think she'd be a really good Prez. She's been around at high levels long enough to know what's what, how to fight, how to get things done. Third, would Bill whisper advice in her ear? I don't want her to hear his advice on trade agreements, that's for sure. But in other aspects about the economy, a few opinions wouldn't hoit. He's brilliant. She's brilliant, too, of course. Goes w/o saying.

34. I'll vote for the Democratic nominee in 2016
Thu Jan 31, 2013, 10:17 PM
Jan 2013

whoever that ends up being. I'll wait to see who's actually in the running for the nomination before I decide where my primary vote goes.

I can already tell you it probably won't be Biden (who'll be 74 in 2016); I am not entirely convinced that Hillary intends to run, either, for that matter (she's not much younger and has had some recent and fairly serious health issues that may increase stroke risk in the future).

Considering that we have a good 2 years before candidates start to declare for the primaries, I'm not too concerned at the moment about 2016 in any case.

Fri Feb 1, 2013, 01:02 AM

just because having another Republican president would be a nightmare, and voting 3rd party would be pointless. But I'm hoping that a more progressive candidate runs who is viable. From what I can recall, she at one point supported the Iraq War, and that doesn't sit too well with me. But she already said she won't run again, plus she's almost 70 years old anyway, so I'll take her at her word.

I don't think he'd stand in the way of history. I think he'd take State if offered, too, assuming he was healthy.

In the general, I'll just vote the "D" ticket, quick and simple.

The president just got sworn in a couple weeks ago. No one's even declared yet for 2016. Most importantly there's a midterm in 2014 we need to focus on or all this will be pointless. Now isn't the time to start the fracturing and infighting especially over mythical presidential candidates.
