But then I remember that the right is overpopulated with just such people.

BTW, who put that ad together? Does the candidate have a pc in his mother's basement????

I'll share my "Facebook" response to this ad with you...

This guy is running against Alan Grayson for Congress. When someone has no message of their own and no intention of doing anything but serving Wall Street, they have to be resourceful and entertaining to justify their ambitions. Fortunately for them the "labor market" for people with FinalCutPro chops is booming. Those of us living outside of Orlando, FL may not be able to vote for Alan Grayson, but make no mistake; this race has nationwide implications and, if this ad is any indication, big money is coming from all over the world to keep Alan Grayson out of office. Wall Street is terrified of Alan Grayson.

*****

As long as there are people like me around, Alan Grayson will never have to resort to the Bob Dole tactic of replacing "I" with his own name, because I can apparently work his name into a short paragraph several times.

5. Boy that ad really is bizarre

It's got way too much going on it.

But I disagree with the assertion on Kos that it's racist or that it's a 'slave ship.' Transatlantic slave ships were sailing vessels without oars, where slaves would be packed into the hold below in chains and sort of just sit there the whole time.

The allusion here is to Mediterranean galleys, which were often powered by slaves, but this is before the era of the transatlantic slave trade. Most of those slaves came from the Mediterranean world (and in Ottoman times, many came from the Balkans/Black Sea/Eastern Europe). These types of ships were not suited to long transatlantic voyages, which is one reason why it took a long time for Europeans to be able to cross the Atlantic. Many of the nautical advances that made this possible actually originated in the Indian Ocean world and East Asia.

I think the point they are trying to make is that all this spending is on the backs of children. It's kind of a crude way of articulating that, but it's a common assertion in politics and not one that's confined to the right. It's more an allusion to 'debt slavery,' which again isn't a term that just the right uses.

But yeah, it's pretty out there. Every season you get a couple really strange ads. Looks like this is going to be one of those this year.

6. For its target audience, the ad's imagery is more important than its basis in historical fact. n/t

8. Is Daniel Webster running for re-election?

Webster is the one who took Grayon's seat a few years ago, is he not running for re-election?

I'm in Grayon's district, and honestly I haven't really heard a peep out of Webster or any other rethug.
