Newt complains that debate audience was stacked against him

First, Newt demanded that the audience be allowed to voice their applause during the debate.

Apparently, what he meant was he wanted an audience that was predominantly pro-Newt.

<snip>
Members of Newt Gingrich's campaign accused Mitt Romney's campaign of packing the audience for the Republican presidential candidate debate on Thursday night in Jacksonville, Fla., with its own supporters to ensure that the dynamics would be favorable to Romney.

"They definitely packed the room," Kevin Kellems, one of Gingrich's senior advisers, told The Huffington Post early Friday morning. "The problem for them is their candidate, at several junctures, couldn't remember what he had said before on an issue or what the fundamental truth is on a given topic. TV viewers tend to notice and remember things like that."

A more junior member of the Gingrich campaign said in an email that it was "obvious" that the Romney campaign had worked to make sure the audience was overly favorable toward the former Massachusetts governor.

So let me guess...next time Newt will stamp his feet and demand a pro-Newt audience, or he won't participate.

2. If Newt can't handle a less-than-adoring audience

How is he going to run the country? And as for Romney not remembering minute-to-minute what his position is on any given issue (as true as that is), I really don't think that's a fight Gingrich wants to pick.

3. Georgia isn't that far away from Jacksonville.

... and they want us to believe the crowd was more partial to a candidate from Massachusetts over a Georgia boy?

Come on, they can do better than that. Newt just didn't have anything to offer. He's yesterday's news.

He is probably just tired. He's not a young guy and is quite overweight.

He has been going morning til night for some time now.

I am pretty fit (run about 15 miles a week) but I am pretty sure I couldn't do it.

9. What he said about his own health in November

“To the best of my knowledge my health is fine. I have an annual physical,” Gingrich said. “I should lose weight, everybody who tells me I should lose weight, they are all correct. I just find it really hard to lose weight.”
----
“I can tell you I can work on four or five hours of sleep a night and cat nap all day and I can go for 8 or 10 days on the road and it doesn’t seem to affect me.”
----
“I think my health is probably fine. Let’s be honest, you never know what could happen to somebody, but I think I’m in very good shape right now,” Gingrich said.

Maybe some of his unhealthy looks have to do with this:

Ever wondered what happened to Sarah Palin? Well Newt Gingrich has eaten her and absorbed her shtick

f you've been wondering where Palin has disappeared to, I can reveal the truth: Gingrich has eaten her. And by eating her, he has absorbed her shtick of blaming his own failings on the mainstream media. Thus, in Thursday's debate, when CNN's John King asked Gingrich to respond to the "open marriage" allegations, Gingrich railed against "the destructive, vicious, negative nature of much of the news media" and added that asking about "personal pain" is "as close to despicable as anything I can imagine". Gingrich was not always so sensitive about personal matters, having once tried to impeach Bill Clinton over "personal pain", AKA lying about having an affair with a woman 22 years younger than him. But considering Gingrich himself was having an affair with a woman 22 years his junior at exactly the same time, "hypocrisy" has for him always been an elastic concept.

The only wonder is why it took so long for Swiss Mitt's campaign to get on the ball.

11. if you watch some of the earlier debates it seemed some were more favorable to Romney

even though he didn't say anything good. in this case at least he did get some shots at newt which resulted in applause. but in previous ones it was nothing.

the issue is that he is paying people to be there. not just debates but at his events. he doesn't get crowds that some other candidates who are lower in polls are able to get. so he has to pay them.
