Retailers Cater to Twinkie Lovers

PLEASANTON, Calif. — Now that Twinkies are no longer in production, retailers are launching their own versions of the popular snack cake.

Safeway here has created a Hostess Twinkies-like packaged snack under its Snack Artist private label.

“It looks like a Twinkie. It tastes like a Twinkie. But this is no dream,” Safeway wrote on its Facebook page. “Snack Artist’s delicious snack cakes are real.”

Along with the Twinkie imitation, the Snack Artist line also includes “Chocolate Cupcakes,” which look similar to Hostess Cupcakes in that they have the iconic white icing curl down the middle.

2. I took a bite of a Twinkie once.

Didn't like it.

4. With the production of Twinkies, Cupcakes, etc. suspended or stopped altogether,

are copyrights for their "recipes" in flux? Can knock-offs be produced and sold if Hostess no longer exists?

5. The have been in many cases

already in production. I am not sure as to the legality of the situation, however I do know that products similar to Twinkies and such have been around for years.

6. Recipes cannot be copyrighted. Little Debbie has had variations of Hostess products

since before WWII and vice versa.
