Tea Party representative Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) was on CNNs State of the Union this morning in an attempt to establish his SOTU address pre-buttal narrative. Asked about the negative ads running against Ashley Judd, Mitch McConnells potential 2014 opponent in Kentucky, Rand Paul said she was attractive, articulate and and doesnt represent Kentucky.
Asked about Karl Roves negative ads against Judd in Kentucky, Rand said, Part of politics is making sure people know about who you are running against. Ashley Judds a famous actress, shes an attractive woman, and presents herself well, and from what I understand, is articulate. But the thing is, she doesnt really represent Kentucky.
I guess Rands Kentucky doesnt want to be represented by an attractive, articulate woman. Or maybe its that Roves GOP PAC Crossroads painted Judd out to be a radical liberal from Tennessee who loves ObamaCare because you should really know who is a Muslim Kenyan socialist without a birth certificate, rather than focusing on the people who are still clinging to the Affordable Care Act as a get out the vote tool even though they know they cant overturn it. After all, the last thing Republicans can afford is to have actual policy discussions with voters.
Rand also offered up his peculiar brand of Tea humor, When I heard Ashley Judd might run for office I thought maybe it was Parliament since she lives in Scotland half the year. Oh, European boogeywoman! Good one, Senator.

She lives in Tennessee. She has more of a shot to run against Lamar Alexander than Mitch McConnell.

Her family is from here; she graduated from the University of Kentucky and is quite prominent throughout the state due to her active role as a fan of UK basketball. Her status as UK's number-one fan might not mean much to you, but it certainly means a lot to Kentuckians. A shallow reason, no...an endearing one to UK fans.
Will she run? I have no idea. If she does, will she win? Maybe...there is a distinctive turn against Mitch McConnell here. My onty concern is the turn is more toward the Tea Party and Rand Paul. If it is toward the Tea Party...a very bad thing.

(11,366 posts)As a matter of fact, Tennesseans have been lobbying for her to run here long before Kentucky got into the game and now y'all keep trying to take her back. She's been an active member of the Tennessee Democratic Party for years.
And that means a lot to Tennesseans.

His biggest selling point is being less apparently odious and openly ghoulish than McTurtle and less brashly and in "old man yells at cloud" style stupid than his predecessor. Maybe Paul represents the shit covered taint of our Commonwealth but Judd much more closely represents the best and future of Kentucky while being true to the spirit of who we are from the earliest days of our nation.

(16,916 posts)For Presidential elections, Kentucky is a red state--but one that Clinton won in 92 and 96.
Or, he may be wrong...With the exception of a single red term in 2003, Kentucky has put a Dem in the governor's seat since 1971.
