HO-LEE SH*T! Have You Seen This?
by Yosef 52
Newt Gingrich's flailing campaign in Florida, being seriously outspent by the RomneyBot, has struck back with almost lethal savagery. I'm sure someone during the day took note of this, but I thought I'd post it for the night owls. Gingrich's campaign has put out a short film accusing Romney of Medicare fraud. The film, called "Blood Money" is here:
More after the jump.
This film is BRUTAL in its accusations, as you have seen if you've just watched it. It was on Andrew Sullivan's site, and it will be airing in Florida during this weekend. My God, this is a sharpened ax thrown right at the Romney campaign. Accusing someone of Medicare fraud, in Florida, is the hardest of hardball politics. I don't know if this will be a game changer--Romney is dominating the aiwaves--but I have a feeling that this is going to dog Willard farther down the line.
At least, I hope it does. And if we play our cards right, it will.

(13,771 posts)due to his company's Medicare fraud. It was his business model for HCA.
Floridians obviously have a high regard for businessmen who have defrauded Medicare and they consider them highly electable.

(12,704 posts)this crap? I never realized how unconcerned Floridians were about blatant fraud. It is shocking to read your post.

(14,255 posts)I voted for Alex Sink. And, as I recall, the DNC declined to help her out very much.
Besides, as a Floridian, I am never sure exactly if the votes were really counted.

(10,622 posts)He got off because as the boss he couldn't have know what was going on or some similar bullshit defense.
This is from memory, but fines were paid and he was guilty as hell but was saved by Florida "Justice".
Hopefully Floridians can fill in the blanks and/or correct anything I have wrong.

(13,933 posts)He had a constitutional right not to self incriminate, but I would have thought before his election that it would have been something a candidate couldn't overcome.

(24,382 posts)It's kind of hilarious watching the republicans kill off their chances of becoming president.
By letting them spend as much money as they want to, they'll have dredged up all the dirt on each other so that Democrats won't even have to worry about it come November.

(17,081 posts)Medicare fraud looks like it worked out pretty well for Jeb Bush and Miguel Recarey in Florida.
"The president's younger brother was also on the payroll in the 80s of the prominent Cuban exile Miguel Recarey, who had earlier assisted the CIA in attempts to assassinate President Castro.
Recarey, who ran International Medical Centers (IMC), employed Jeb Bush as a real estate consultant and paid him a $75,000 fee for finding the company a new location, although the move never took place, which raised questions at the time. Jeb Bush did, however, lobby the Reagan/Bush administration vigorously and successfully on behalf of Recarey and IMC. "I want to be very wealthy," Jeb Bush told the Miami News when questioned during that period.
Recarey was later charged with massive medicare fraud but fled the US before his trial and is now a fugitive."
http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article3335.htm
or:
"Beginning with John "Jeb" Bush, now governor of Florida, we find that he assisted Miguel Recarey, a fugitive now living in Spain, to steal over $200 million from International Medical Centers, the HMO Recarey owned, by using Jeb's father's influence to acquire a waiver for the HMO of the standard rule of 50-50 (meaning that at least 50% of an HMO's clients cannot be Medicare patients but must be full paying clients). This theft left 150,000 elderly Americans without medical coverage. Oh, and by the way, Recarey had paid Jeb Bush's company a $75,000 "real-estate consultant fee". All totaled, Recarey embezzled over $1 billion in Medicare funds through false billings and outright theft. "

(63,892 posts)This is SO tailor made for the Dems attack on Mitt in the General, it's not even funny!
this is SO well done, SO well articulated, that it can be completely copied by the Obama campaign and IT SHOULD BE!
Newt's problem is that he doesn't see it coming. He doesn't get it that he's doing the dirty work for the Dems in the REAL campaign, the one that will matter. He is just into scorched earth. It will bite you and the other repubs in the ass, buddy...count on it...

(53,661 posts)Anyone know how this plays into his healthcare plan in MA?
And this scandal hit just as Hillary was trying to get the corporations out of healthcare and the private sector and Limbo jumped in with the nineties version of the 'death panels'.
Hey, I lived through that era, but not in MA. Anyone here knows about this?
Thanks for bringing this here, FourScore. I'd have never had the stomach to look at GOP attack ad. It was over done with the creepy music and the voice, and probably not totally correct, but it was very telling.

(13,917 posts)No matter who walks away with the R nomination, its going to be someone who has defrauded/cheated/bilked the Us government. Granted, of the current options Romney may have walked away with the most, but he ain't the only one. And the more people have it shoved in their face that this is what republicans do, the better for the nation.

(2,574 posts)Republicans doing to Republicans during the primary what Democrats should be doing to them all of the time ( and with few exceptions never do even during elections). More deeply than this, it completely contradicts the Republican's central belief - that is, the problem is government and the solution is less regulation and privatization. This add - even more than an attack on Romney - eviscerates that central belief.

(14 posts)I saw this video TWO days ago and I haven't heard it yet ONCE on ANY TV news show, nothing about it on Meet the Press or other Sunday talk shows...and I haven't even seen it mentioned on the Huffington Post or Think Progress...hmmmm
And we wonder why an unfortunately large number of Americans are not educated on these corrupt politicians???

(7,321 posts)That's a quote from Obama a few months back. Was it a floating meme in the politicalsphere at the time? or is it actually something the GOP is latching on to?
