Is it possible for Occupy to bankrupt a city's police department?

How many people can any city's police department hope to detain? How much does one average jury trial cost?

We need to kill the funding for the police gangs in every city where they arrest Occupy activists. Drive them to the breaking point. Is this possible?

1. Yes, unfortunately it would come out of other city funding, somewhere.

2. Imagine a large metropolitan city without police.

Not a nice picture, IMO.

4. I imagine that they could recoup costs from those successfully prosecuted/fined.

With the right legal strategies, however, cities could certainly be compelled to back off with the arrests.

5. No

Public safety is the primary function of government. Other things would be sacrificed to keep that funded.

8. Lowering a budget is not the same as what you asked

Being a primary responsibility is not the same as budgetary carte blanche

9. It's a good start. As is this.

We need to go further, though.

6. I get your point,

but tax payer dollars are endless. I agree in a sense that the police 1) beat down dissent of the PTB, and 2) generate operating cash (ie highway traffic act offenses). We will never bankrupt the police as long people live in fear. That said, Obviously the police also provide necessary functions in any community. So bankrupting them is not option, but engaging the average voter as to how their tax dollars are spent is a whole other argument. And one desperately in need of happening.
