I forgot that he retired. If there has ever been someone who embodied the city of Atlanta more I don't know who it was. We have had wonderful people like John Lewis but he does not embody this city. There was even a sold out going away party at the Fox.
A mediocre talent for a mediocre city.

(4,528 posts)I use to sell cash registers all over Atlanta. I hate to break it to you but go to a San Francisco, Chicago or even Denver and especially Denver. It's a city that never had white flight. They have committed to downtown. People are nice and they are very educated. They have their second African American mayor and the city is no more than about 5-10% African American.
They have light rail that goes somewhere and bicycle paths all over the city. People do not try to run you off the road when you bicycle and they have a high school that is completely run by solar power and are proud of it.
We have Neal Boortz being heralded.

(18,639 posts)I've lived here 40 years and yes, it has its many faults. I've been to all those places and agree that many places do many things better than we do.

(28,253 posts)It's like saying that the entire state of Texas is nothing but a bunch of Rick Perrys and Steve Stockmans---which, come to think of it, happens all the time here at DU. Vilifying a whole geographical area on the basis of one shithead is just plain wrong. Dial it back a little, OK?

(4,528 posts)My aunt used to be a regular caller to Boortz when he was on Ring radio. I know the city better than most including the entire south side. I have cash registers everywhere in the city. For a "big city" it is one of the most boring cities I have ever been to. Literally, there is almost nothing to do here. There is hardly any night life after Ray Lewis killed Buckhead (literally and figuratively)
The food scene which used to be OK has become pretty boring. Tom Coohill who used to have a 5 star restaurant here left for Denver and he is never coming back. He opened a great restaurant in Denver.
Gwinnett county is so effin' conservative only topped by east Cobb.
So when I mean a city I mean the entire metro area and it pretty much sucks.
There are pockets of OK- Decatur, 5 points but as a whole this is one of the most boring right wing hellhole of a city and Boortz epitomizes it.
If my kids weren't at UGA I would be out and talk about conservative college campuses. ugh and it really blows for women. 60% women and 40% men. The men are assholes to women there. They still hang dixie flags on fraternity row and you should see some of the fraternity blogs. n*****r this and n*****r that. My son's fraternity's nickname is a racial slur because they actually have a negro in it.
