PPP: 67% of SOTU Viewers Approved of President Obama's Speech

The overwhelming majority of those who tuned in to the State of the Union address approved of the speech delivered by President Barack Obama, according to the findings of a snap poll that was released Wednesday.

The automated survey, conducted Tuesday night by Democratic-leaning Public Policy Polling on behalf of the National Resources Defense Council, showed that 67 percent of those who said they watched the State of the Union approved of Obama's speech while 33 percent disapproved. Seventy-two percent of women and 62 percent of men said they approved of the address.

so relatively few of them would have been counted in this survey. There's a reason Fox News didn't put on Obama's speeches during the campaign. It's because Fox News viewers would have immediately changed the channel.

It means that a host of Americans who voted for Romney agree with Obama's approach to the issues.

And this wasn't the only poll that had similar numbers. The CNN poll had 77% with Very Positive (53%) or Somewhat Positive (24%) reactions to the SOTU. It would appear that outside the hardcare teabagging base of the Republican Party, Obama has something that looks like nearly universal support.

The question is, will he use it?

Sometimes Obama reminds me of Gen. George McClellan in the Civil War. No matter what numerical advantage he might enjoy, it's never quite enough to justify going on the offense.
