Louisiana Official Moves to Ban Wearing Pajamas in Public
The pajama party might be over for residents of Caddo Parish in northwest Louisiana, the Shreveport Times reports.
Michael Williams, a Caddo commissioner, is proposing an ordinance that will prohibit locals from wearing pajama pants in public after an incident at a local Walmart offended the official and other customers. Williams said one of a group of young men clad in pajama pants revealed his private parts, inciting the idea for the ban.
If you cant [wear pajamas] at the boardwalk or courthouse, why are you going to do it in a restaurant or in public? Today its pajamas, Williams told the Times. Tomorrow its underwear. Where does it stop?
Underwear tomorrow might be a little extreme. But some residents are bothered by the idea of banning pajamas in public. Tracy Carter, a resident of Shreveport, told the Times she and her three young children wear pajamas in public often. I can get out of the bed and go to the store, and theyre covering everything, she said. Ive got a 3-year-old, a 5-year-old and a 12-year old to deal with.

(3,818 posts)Though the thought of people literally rolling out of bed going to the store evokes laziness and is slovenly. Ewww...

(16,232 posts)I'm okay with that.
I wish they'd outlaw sagging, too. If people can see your damn underdrawers, then something is seriously WRONG.

(47,675 posts)They also tend to be sewn together down to the knee caps so you can't walk without looking like a penguin and running is just out of the question. People spend a lot of money on stupidity.

(15 posts)They DID outlaw sagging here in Shreveport Louisiana a couple of years ago. Outlawing bad taste has become the du jour here. i think it's a waste of our time and money to have people making laws this inane with all the ACTUAL problems we have. But hey. i'm just one of the majority who is being ignored by these councilpersons on every vote.

(16,232 posts)there are plenty worse things to spend time, money, and energy over.
Just - omg - I hate seeing those ijuts walking around with their pants around their knees with their boxers showing and they're trying to hold up their pants with one hand, keep from tripping and just stupid, if you ask me. It has to be THE most ridiculous "fashion statement" in the history of the world. Birds in hair, zoot suits, women's shoulder pads, and togas included.

They all got flannel up and down 'em,
a little trap door back around 'em,
some cozy little footies on their mind.

(47,675 posts)Aren't there just a FEW things more important than banning people from looking like complete fucking morons by what they wear? What's next, those silly plastic clogs? If people want to look stupid, let them.

(24,780 posts)I'm sick and tired of seeing it. And worse yet, the trashy parents that allow their kids to do it.

(96,793 posts)They bring their kids to school. And no, they can't just drop them off. They have to walk them in the building. While the parents are in their pajamas.
When the weather is warm, we see much more than we should.

(17,742 posts)Pajamas is just a different fabric, how dare they try to outlaw a fabric? Stupid waste of taxpayer money, as usual.

Is this understood?
Can't ban things that kill people, but PJs that do no harm? Oh no, we've got to get all up in your business.

(31,514 posts)You'll probably think I'm pretty old fashioned about this, and you're probably right, but I think pajamas should be considered at home wear, not out in public wear. When I see a grown man wearing his space and robot print jammies to do his grocery shopping or the woman at the courthouse wearing her plaid flannels with knne high, fringed leather boots, I just have to wonder why.

Had NO idea people were showing up in public in their jammies.
Not a clue.

(27,630 posts)to enforce the fashion laws. They really should. And then people will finally complain what a waste of taxpayer money that was, and they will think twice before passing fashion laws ever again!

(19,240 posts)I have some really cute Hello Kitty pj pants and a black pair with little white skulls that no one looks at twice.
If it is the fly that bothered the cops, maybe mens jeans need to have side zippers (or elastic waist bands) from now on, too, cause all mens pants have the fly in the front.

(63,901 posts)the idea of pajamas in public is more than a little strange to me...
I DON'T agree with arresting people dressed in pajamas. I just think people who want to be considered grownups don't wear pajamas in public.
Please...

(6,670 posts)There's a really clear boundary there, that has nothing at all to do with 'bad taste'.
It's against the law to wave your willie in public, and clothes simply aren't an excuse. Tape the damn thing down if you have to. Stuff it in a sock. Whatever.
Likewise butt crack - if you see the butthole, don't get all steamed up later, just say, really loud, open and innocent sounding, "Hey, dude, did you know that everyone can see your actual asshole, leaky poop and all? Maybe you should wipe if you're going for that kind of fashion statement." It's amazing how quick it can blow a young dude's cool.
If they can ban pajamas, maybe we can ban the business suit, the worldwide uniform of the psychopath. Why would anyone in their right mind wear one if they DIDN'T want to be associated with those people?

(17,042 posts)It sounds very nanny like. I don't think we need some suit somewhere telling people what we can and cannot wear.
It's bullshit.
