(52,791 posts)He is 25 and needs medication & treatment for asthma and other things. Thanks to the new health care law, he can stay on our policy for another year as he searches for a job with benefits.

(4,876 posts)but we are all about the truth on DU correct?
Well here is a followup to this poor woman's story and it's not good. She is financially ruined...

This is a comment from her:
Im still stupidly bummed, broke and havent had any sales in the shop in like a week (despite listing five new items last week) which doesnt help. I also dont think Ill be able to raise $237 before the end of the month to pay Februarys PCIP premium and that sucks really bad. Without sales coming in, I dont have enough so I dont know what to do about that. I hate being so broke and in medical bill debt Hell. I mean, Im thrilled to be healthy but it feels like, at what cost, you know? What good is it to be healthy if youre ruined because of it?

(9,681 posts)"she has several chronic conditions and lost her part-time job when she took leave for her surgery". It seems to me that the employer is the one who failed here, for firing her. So the "truth" is she's alive and doing better because of "Obamacare" but "financially ruined" because of former employer.

(4,854 posts)Even model employees with bennies and official time off often fear what will happen if they get sick. Owner of the business I work for brags about never missing a day in 60 years but conveniently forgets how often he comes late leaves early and phones it in from home.

(37,305 posts)Funny how employers treat people so much better when it's hard to find good workers.
I remember back in the day when employers wanted to provide great benefits so they could attract good workers. It's a chicken and egg situation, when there is so much to choose from we all look less valuable.

(4,876 posts)so the Obama plan is fine as long as you can afford it, except that there is going to be a mandate. This is the exact problem with the plan that has been pointed out many times. It's going to hurt as many people as it helps.
But hey, it's just a pony and anyone who says different is just a whiner or a hater. At least that's what I'm told.
I might also point out this quote from the link
President Obama: "Im a Democrat. But I believe what Republican Abraham Lincoln believed: That Government should do for people only what they cannot do better by themselves, and no more. Thats why my education reform offers more competition, and more control for schools and States. Thats why were getting rid of regulations that dont work. Thats why our health care law relies on a reformed private market, not a Government program.
That does not sound like a man who wants universal health care to me.
BTW I'm voting for Obama so please don't go there, I'm just pointing pout the flaw in the HCR that I keep being told is "a pony".

Yeah, that government run government/taxpayer funded Medicare is such a bust, isn't it?
Forcing us to buy private insurance from blood sucking leeches is a good plan?
Well the private for profit health insurance will make a killing so that's a good plan for them.

(50,249 posts)It's a real stretch sometimes to keep it paid, but that's all we've got for the time being and I'm worried the Supreme Court will be taking that much away. What a fucked up country.

(153,138 posts)actually, your story may be worthy of its own thread. There is a lot of speculation on DU on what we COULD pay; it is important to hear from real experience outside of these feel-good stories

(5,937 posts)No talk about it here, HCR, and that is more than half what I do. Medicaid. Overhaul and the logistics it would take for state and federal systems will take years to complete. As it is now each state manages their own medicaid programs, not one is the same. None of the systems communicate state to state. Many systems are out of date and in much need of overahaul, while some states have advanced systems. This is supposed to be fully running in 2014? I don't see it as being possible.
bvar22
(39,909 posts)it is going to be a disaster.
Even the states that DO manage to implement their own version of a Public Option
won't be able to show much success over the Private Plans due to the small, diluted risk pool
and redundant administrative structures.
AFAIC, this is failure by design.

Medical Bankruptcy will STILL be Big Business in the USA,
perhaps even BIGGER.
As long as the Centrist Democratic Party Leadership is working to "preserve the private delivery system" (Rahm Emanuel, July, 2010)
nothing will really change.
This is NOT the Health Care System envisioned and initiated by Democrats like FDR and LBJ.
"Medical Bankruptcy" is a term that is unknown in civilized countries,
but in the USA is the "Uniquely American Solution".
