A Picture That Should Make Scalia Hang His Head In Shame

JUSTICE SCALIA: The Voting Rights Act Is A 'Racial Entitlement'

John Lewis, future congressman, after having his skull fractured
by police in a protest in Selma, Alabama, March 1965.

A week and a day after Bloody Sunday, President Johnson appeared before a joint session of Congress to demand passage of the Voting Rights Act, empowering the federal government to enforce the voting rights of all Americans. The passage of the voting rights act finally brought the federal government into the struggle, squarely on the side of the disenfranchised voters of the South.

My husband says scalia alone is proof enough that Supreme Court Justice positions should NOT be positions for life.

It is not allowed by the Constitution. Justice John Marshall took it upon himself to grant himself that power. In accordance with article 3 Congress has the authority to regulate the courts.

feel shame, making him totally unsuitable for the SC in a democracy. But since we are not a democracy anymore, he appears to be very suited for the position he is in. Anthony Weiner nearly brought him down, so they went after HIM and our brave leaders joined the effort to silence Weiner. Since then Thomas has been able to relax. We puritans care more about a Congressman engaging in cyber sex than we do about a SC judge who should have been impeached for not recusing himself from cases where he personally benefited. But that's the way it is in this great Empire.

People need to get over the notion that just because someone is of a particular ethnicity, including one that has been brutally oppressed, that they automatically must be people of moral character. This is not the case, Thomas is just another example of human depravity, they exist in all cultures and all ethnicities. They will accept the benefits of the sacrifices of others, but consider themselves above it all.

The Voting Rights Act is an important law, the one huge problem with it is it only applies to certain states rather than the whole nation. It needs to be applied to all states, I live in a state that does not fall under the Voting Rights Act and has a pretty good track record on voting integrity but I think my state should be subject to the law just like the southern states are. Scalia is a racist asshole.
