(26,109 posts)from a professor who at that time held one of only six licenses in the US to grow and study marijuana, I'll disagree.

(45,358 posts)One variety is grown for fiber and other materials, the other is grown for medicine and recreation. The Cannabis genus is very diverse.
I wouldn't say "hemp is marijuana", though both raw crops are Cannabis.

(591 posts)I don't know a lot of things but I do know about hemp oil.
Maybe that label on the bottle is referring to extra virgin olive oil, which has a similar smoke point. Virgin olive oil shouldn't be used for frying either. Heating any oil past the smoke point and then eating it is not healthy. Look up "oil smoke point"
Olive Oil - Extra Virgin 320°F
Grape Seed 485ºF or 252ºC
Avocado 480ºF or 249ºC
Sesame 410ºF or 210ºC
Canola 400ºF or 204ºC
Macademia 385ºF or 196ºC
Most people fry things at 350-375 degrees.
"Hempseed oil has a relatively low smoke point and is not suitable for frying."

(13,184 posts)That's why we can't grow industrial hemp here.
The DEA also tried to block the import of hemp products that could be ingested, but got knocked down in the US 9th Circuit Court of Appeals a few years back.
The ban on growing low-THC industrial hemp is perhaps the single stupidest thing about pot prohibition, and that's saying something.
