Rachel Maddow was in Tucson, tonight.

Centennial Hall at the UofA was packed. I don't believe that one seat was empty. Rachel spoke about her book, Drift, then she answered audience questions that had been pre-selected from an email solicitation that went out to ticketholders.

She's an amazing force.

...was in response to the last audience question: who, among the many famous people she's met, has had the biggest impact on her. She prefaced her answer by referencing her years as an AIDS activist and her work among prisoners with AIDS. A fellow activist, Bryan Stevenson, of the Equal Justice Initiative of Alabama, who works on behalf of death row prisoners once shared his philosophy with her that people are much more than the worst thing they've ever done. It was pretty clear that his words had a profound effect on how she's tried to live her life. She is authentically beautiful, inside and out.
