2. Damn!

I liked his acerbic self, even if he did stagger around in his drink too much.

3. I knew he was dying but this was sooner than I expected ...

... Although he's fascinating no matter what he's talking about, I found his discussion of cancer and dying particularly interesting especially in light of his steadfast belief that there is no afterlife.

I knew he was undergoing some experimental treatments and although I don't suppose he was super rich I assume he had resources and just would have been able to hang on longer than this.

6. R.I.P. Christopher. I will actually miss his dour commentary

I always liked when he was on Real Time. Seemed like a tortured soul, but still had real opinions, rather than mindless Stepford ones.

7. My criterion for deciding which of my friends to e-mail his obituary to

The criterion for deciding who to send this to became:

Who did he offend, and there was plenty to go around::

He was an atheist and attacker of Mother Teresa and I think JP2 and author of “God Is Not Great”; formerly a TROTSKYite who later supported the wars on the Falklands and Iraq; attacker on Bill CLINTON and snitch who almost got Sid BLUMENTHAL charged with perjury over LEWINSKY; smoker and boozer (died at 62 yesterday of esophageal cancer) and refused to deathbed-convert/repent. You can decide which facet of offensiveness applies to (addressing my friends: ) you.
