Newtown parents inconvenience Senator Collins

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/13/susan-collins-newtown-victims-obama-dinner_n_3076181.html

snip:

“I was 45 minutes late for dinner with the president of the United States," she said. "Everybody was seated when I got there, because I spent time talking to the parents and the family members of those who were killed at Newtown. I told them I had a dinner with the president but that I was deliberately being late.

Collins inconvenienced for 45 minutes. Parents inconvenienced for the rest of their deceased children's lives.

Just another reminder why I hate republicans.

She is explaining that she was late to dinner with the President because
she felt that meeting with the Newtown parents was more important and a higher moral imperative.

Deliberately being late means that she was making that choice to be there with them instead of being on time for the President. Republicans do much to outrage me, I just don't think this is one of those instances.

What time did Collins arrive for "work" that day? There was no time during the entire day to speak to these families?

for the expanded background check legislation that just got past the first filibuster attempt That is not just a yes for cloture, it is a yes for the legislation itself. She really doesn't make for the best villain on this particular issue. She's not great, but there are at least 40 or more who are worse, maybe including one or two Democrats.

Still not an excuse to be late to the business dinner (IMO) Also, surprised Huffpost can't find more important issues to write about in our political world.

She could have skipped the business dinner with Pres. O altogether, and spent several hours with the families.
