(130,860 posts)This was last week. WHY are you putting such a Headline up NOW???
I thought they might have gotten the suspect to tell them of another bomb!

(20,729 posts)& i don't see anything in your link that debunks the tweet or even mentions it.
PeaceNikki
(27,985 posts)HiPointDem
(20,729 posts)explanatory material rather than (as most posters here have done) tell him to delete it.
the tweet seems to have a rational explanation. bringing that explanation to wider attention does more to stop wild speculation than banning the fact of the tweet.
PeaceNikki
(27,985 posts)And the OP should be called out for it.
Harshly.
HiPointDem
(20,729 posts)explanation clearly rather than telling the poster to delete it because a) it was fake b) it was old news c) it was conspiracy theory d) the poster has bad motivations.
the attempt to cover up truthful information (such a tweet occurred) makes people believe there's more to it than there apparently is.
i'm satisfied with the explanation from snopes; i think most people would be. the motivation of the poster could be to spread false rumors; it could just as easily be that he saw the information uncontextualized, just as it almost was here.
why spend so much venom addressing the motives of the poster when you could cut off the whole line of inquiry by posting the explanation?
PeaceNikki
(27,985 posts)Has the OP returned to 'thank' anyone for correction? Or to reply at all to debunking? Or answer what they were trying to imply with OP.
no, no and no.
HiPointDem
(20,729 posts)cut off the speculation is to post a clear, calm evidence-based rebuttal.
attempting to silence the poster or brand him a conspiracy theorist don't help; they actually lend weight to the belief that the 'ptb' don't want the information to be known.
PeaceNikki
(27,985 posts)To each his own.
HiPointDem
(20,729 posts)fact, it makes it worse.
nothing shuts down such discussion like clear factual rebuttal.
attempts to silence or smear the poster add fuel to the fire.
yes, to each his own.
PeaceNikki
(27,985 posts)but thanks for the lecture in "internetting". Be careful getting off of that horse!!
HiPointDem
(20,729 posts)uninformative attempts to shut down/smear the poster.

(130,860 posts)Was a 'verified tweet' ONE WEEK AGO, it is highly misleading, kind of like CNN (and fox) specialize in, and we try to avoid such at DU.
HiPointDem
(20,729 posts)elleng
(130,860 posts)and his causes us to think this is happening NOW, and have to read small print @ tweet to confirm this was one week ago.
HiPointDem
(20,729 posts)there are no edits on the post, so that's the original title. so he clearly IDs the date in the title. the only reason you'd think it was about NOW is because you didn't read it.

(550 posts)but kind of an argument to your post is that: If the tweet is deleted, it won't show up.
HiPointDem
(20,729 posts)On the afternoon of April 15, the Twitter feed of the Boston Globe reported that officials had stated "There will be a controlled explosion opposite the library within one minute as part of bomb squad activities"...
However, this tweet was issued about an hour after the bomb blasts and referenced a controlled detonation of a suspicious device near the central branch of the Boston Public Library, which is on the stretch of Boylston Street where the initial explosions occurred.
