White House Correspondents' Dinner Lays Bare the Elite Club that is DC.

Once again we mere mortals who vote in the politicians and pay their salaries and who read the papers and web sites/blogs of the DC "journalists" are treated to viewing the WH Correspondents' Dinner. It's a cozy little affair with all the DC gliterati there to roast one another like the Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts TV show. They are a tight-knit group, those politicians and those "journalists."

I know I'm preaching to the choir when I say those "journalists" are no more reporting objectively on the politicians they're so cozy with than the Justice Dept. and Treasury Dept. are regulating and prosecuting banksters and criminals on Wall Street.

They certainly are not doing the type of reporting on the government and its foibles that prompted the founding fathers to write the First Amendment for fear of having the voice of the people censored and silenced. The so-called "journalists," their editors and media owners do that all on their own now.

rang true, that it's where two different zoos come together in one room. There is the Hollywood zoo and the Washington zoo all co-mingling even though they are so very different from each other.

neither has a real moral compass. The difference between the two is that Hollywood is fake, Washington actually sends real people to die in real wars and allows the Military/Industrial complex to rule (and ruin) our lives.

This government and the press disgust me. Why should anyone take this government and any of its administrations seriously. One richie after another...blah. Life in America is not a TV show anymore.

i'm looking at it, and hearing the menu, thinking that must be nice. And then Seth Myers a couple of years ago, and Conan tonight, make jokes about what a dump the hotel is. I guess to them it is.

The day in day out ignoring of what the people want, that is the issue. Not a one night a year dinner.

Every year, the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) throws one of Washington’s most-talked-about galas: the White House Correspondents’ Association annual dinner. In one blockbuster night, members of the media and political power players—including the president and first lady—gather with Hollywood glitterati to recognize excellence in the journalism profession.

But there’s much more to the association than a star-studded dinner with the White House Press Corps. “We’re not just a party,” explains Michael Scherer, White House correspondent for Time magazine and chairman of the WHCA Scholarship Committee. “We’re also a charitable organization, and we have for a long time given away substantial amounts of money to young people who want to be journalists.”

Since 1991, the WHCA has awarded nearly $600,000 to students in high school, college, and graduate school. The program has grown annually thanks to the generosity of corporations, individual donors, and the funds raised during the dinner. In fact, this year the association will hand out 22 scholarships totaling $133,000—its highest amount, reveals Julia Whiston, WHCA executive director. The scholarship winners will be announced the night of the event, April 27.
