Here is the email I received
Healthcare experts all agree. For Obamacare (the Affordable Care Act) to prove successful, it MUST succeed in California.(1) If we screw it up here -- in a blue state with a Democratic Legislature and Governor -- Republicans across the country will be vindicated for their unprecedented obstruction. But if we do it right, other states -- even red states -- will be forced to follow our lead.
The problem: right now Governor Brown is not on board. He's trying to cut corners by limiting coverage for the neediest Californians and preserving old school bureaucracy in place of new technology. But there's no need to be cheap! The federal government is picking up the entire cost for the first three years. Adjustments can be made later if they're needed.
Take one minute and call Gov. Brown. Every call matters. Truly.
The California Legislature already did its job by passing smart, balanced bills, but negotiations are happening right now with the Governor. He's proposed 63 pages of amendments, some of which are worse than the proposals of Arizona Governor Jan Brewer.(2) The Los Angeles Times, San Jose Mercury News, and The Sacramento Bee all say that Jerry Brown is wrong on this(3), but that's not enough. He needs to hear from YOU, Marc.
Gov. Brown proposes to only expand Medi-Cal to the neediest Californians if we also cut each county's safety-net, which funds public hospitals, clinics, and low-income health programs to care for the uninsured. This is like robbing Peter to pay Paul. Both programs are vitally important, and if the Governor gets his way, California's version of Obamacare will NOT provide truly universal healthcare.
Please take a moment of your time and let the Governor hear your voice.
