Besides small mindedness/racism, the CORE of wingnutism is: Distrust of others/fear of human nature
So the local radio wingnut had a bit of exhaustion of usual patience with one of my rants about how wingnutism is “limited” as a mental construct, how wingnuts see “a very NEAR” horizon to things, a very MATERIAL horizon, how Liberalism is Big Picture thinking. And he replied huffily that for the moment he didn’t have the time or energy to counter in detail but that Liberalism is NOT intellectually superior but is, rather, EMOTION-based, besides being all for “the coercive power of the state.”
So I said: You claim “coercive power” is the mark of Liberalism. Oh, as opposed to THESE marks of Wingnutism, that are NOT “coercive” powers:
* Inherent aggression, warfare. Hostility to civilian superiority over the military.
* Seeking “higher” power as authority (mixing religious ABSOLUTISM into civilian government. A “heavenly” source of ABSOLUTE power.
* Witchhunts, seeing enemies everywhere, paranoia and John WAYNE hysteria reactions. Racism.
* Talk about State power: interfering in people’s personal decisions while claiming “freedom”.
*******This morning, expanding on the LIMITEDness of wingnutism, I think at the core is total distrust of others, fear of human nature, fear fear fear.
