Shortage of Skilled Work Through U.S.? Not a new complaint.

This was from a newspaper dated February 8, 1936; in the depths of the
depression. Does it sound familiar? Yet 6 years later, we not only had enough
skilled labor to run the war machinery, but women were filling the jobs
building ships and airplanes. As I see it, whenever this excuse is brought
out for large numbers on the (then) dole (now) unemployment roles, it's just
a bunch of bullpucky. This country has always had the needed skills to do
anything it had a will to, including putting a man on the moon.

Shortage of Skilled Work Through U.S.
Chicago (AP)-
A serious shortage in skilled labor due to the business uptrend was reported
today by the nation's industrial executives.
Though hundreds of technical jobs were opening, trained men could not be
found to fill them, a three-day conference of the business leaders disclosed.
Acute in Auto Trades
The shortage was described as most acute in the automobile and machine trades
although felt by industry in general.

A quote by Alvin Dodd of New York, executive vice president of the American
Management association, sponser of the conference on personnel and industrial
relations problems:
"Industry is facing a serious shortage of skilled workers, the pinch is already
being felt and will grow more acute as business continues on the upgrade".

on a six month probation period (even though you are new and have not done anything wrong) and treat you like a bleeding moron until you have been with us for six years and are fully vested. Once you start making too much money and get too big for your britches we force you out to make room for more unskilled low wage people.
