Dick Armey actually said this???

... re Christie's decision to hold a special election to fill NJ's open senate seat:

..." And if he thinks the Democrats are going to love him for being the guy who plays fair rather than takes the political opportunity he's crazy."

He referred to Christie's decision as "debilitating stupidity".

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2013/06/04/christie-accused-of-debilitating-stupidity-after-election-decision/?hpt=hp_t2

Lemme get this straight:

The choices are to either "play fair" or exercise a "political opportunity" - which I suppose, by inverse definition, is not going to be "fair"? Is that some telling insight into republican political ideology, or am I making a molehill out of a mountain?

as I understand it, Christie's decision is in Christie's self-interest. Armey is spinning it as "playing fair".

The simpler explanation that Christie, given the choices in front of him, chose the path of most political gain to Christie. Fairness had nothing to do with it. He could care less what Democrats or Republicans think of him individually. He's playing to a much broader audience which is a strategy both Clinton and Obama use to varying degrees. Except for him, how much money it costs is irrelevant. To him it's a small investment on the presidency and it's not his money anyway.

... Christie is acting on Christie's behalf - no doubt. But I was still struck by Armey's choice of words there. We all know that "Fair" and "Politics" are almost always mutually exclusive concepts in the political arena - especially for the GOP - but they don't generally own up to that publicly. To hear the House leader as much as admit it, out loud, with cameras there... I'm just a little surprised. I think they might be so tightly immersed in their bubble now that they simply forget sometimes to keep up the pretense.

in the middle of October.
Every part of this is designed to help one guy - Chris Christie.

October would be a good time for Obama to come up and campaign for Christie - maybe that would keep repugs from voting in Noveber.
