Girls, follow your dream, as long as you dream about being a mom.

Apparently there are too many women CEOs and not enough moms according to this (public) high school graduation speaker:

Social studies teacher Peter Heck gave the speech, which encouraged the graduates to put family first, but his comments about women in the workplace caused a stir:

"I challenge you to devote yourself to your families and your children. If you choose to have a career, God's blessings upon you. But I challenge you to recognize what the world scoffs at, that your greatest role in your life will be that of wife and mother. The greatest impact you could ever contribute to our world is a loving investment in the lives of your precious children. To solve the problems plaguing our society, we don't need more women CEOs. We need more women as invested mothers."

Women have proven themselves capable as warriors, workers, business owners and CEOs; but these men need them to stay at home because they can not handle helping to maintain a home and raise children.

I need my wife to stay at home because as a man I am an incompetent idiot and can't even tie my kids shoes.

Fucking morons

There was a hilarious Mystery Science Theater 3000 short about 'Home Economics'. My daughters and I had tears in our eyes.

Times have sure changed.

Or have they?

the speaker had the best advice I've heard (and I go to these things every year): Always live east of your job - that way the sun is never in your eyes when you go to work or leave work.

I know it only works with typical work schedules, but it's at least useful advice for grads

We need better parents, let's be honest.

But you never see anyone asking if it's okay to be a dad and have a career. This debate centers too much on mutual exclusivity. Frankly I don't know what other option those girls have, unless they marry wealthy husbands or come from families with money. How does any family get by these days without two incomes?

What's so bad about women choosing careers over having kids? It's not like we're running out of ppl, there's already 7 billion of us! And why can't a man choose to be a stay-at-home dad instead of a CEO? Has it not occurred to him that some women don't have a choice, they have to work to provide for their children? It's (conservative) thinking like this that just doesn't match-up with what's going on in the real world.
