NRCC: NSA Collecting Phone Records Amounts To Another Obama Scandal

NRCC: NSA Collecting Phone Records Amounts To Another Obama Scandal

The National Republican Congressional Committee, tasked with electing members of the GOP to Congress, on Thursday dubbed a report detailing the collection of phone log records from millions of Americans by the National Security Agency another scandal for President Barack Obama.

"In a month dominated by the Obama administration’s scandals, this will, no doubt, be added to the list," a spokesman wrote in an NRCC blog post.

Other Republicans, however, dismissed the revelation as something long known by members of Congress who voted to grant the NSA such powers. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), a frequent critic of the administration's national security policy, said Thursday that he was "glad" Verizon turned over his phone records in the name of the war on terror.

Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) also weighed in at a Capitol Hill press conference:

Sahil Kapur @sahilkapur

Chambliss on NSA: "This is nothing particularly new... Every member of the US Senate has been advised of this."

Sorry, they were wrong under Bush and I can't see how changing the team colors changes that.

Or did you like TIA when Poindexter was fronting for it? If so, you were AWFUL quiet on this board!

He could have done nothing and the amendments would have sunset and returned to pre-Bush status.

But he chose to bring it up and give retroactive immunity to telecoms.

Obama promised to filibuster retroactive immunity, then he voted for it. Now he's expanded it.

Reid/McConnell
Boehner/Pelosi
Mike Rogers / Dutch Ruppersberger
Diane Feinstein / Saxby Chamblis

I dare the GOP to make something of this! They are just as invested in it as anyone else.

Nothing will get done about it unless we Democrats agree that it is a "scandal" and that Barack Obama is responsible. Only then will there be a chance to change this disastrous law.

"And the sad part is: Nothing will get done about it unless we Democrats agree that it is a "scandal" and that Barack Obama is responsible."

...the sad part is that we can't even agree on the facts, which of course, the Republicans aren't interested in.
