A public dialogue about what the government is going to do to reestablish trust in the Congress, the Executive & Judicial branches with the American people.
He needs to do it soon. And it needs to be followed by action. And he'd better fucking mean it.
IMHO of course.

(9,766 posts)And to those of you here claiming that its being carefully monitored and US citizens arent included in this, I have some news for you. This is a big operation. There are most likely tens of thousands of people involved. And its going to be around for the rest of our lives. To think that some of these thousands of people might not misuse this information, either now or in the future, is laughable.
Im sure the President thinks its under control. But he also thought the same about the IRS and the press issues. Frankly it seems to me theres a lot he doesnt know about within his administration, and the chance that security measures are being abused and hes not aware of it is pretty damn likely if you ask me.

I really don't listen much to the "Americas Government is the Horrible" crowd either, that's not been my experience

(90,301 posts)...I would LOVE to hear peoples response if America was attacked, 5k people killed and Obama was NOT collecting the meta data because he didn't want to tick off a couple of the professional left?
Would LOVE to hear the response

(2,522 posts)It's completely unprovable, and can be used to justify just about any measure the government could take. Attempts to trade liberty for security are hardly ever a good idea.
Who is the professional left? Is Al Gore one of them? Bernie Sanders? Russ Feingold? Am I?

(45,319 posts)They need to do all of this, and yet they were interviewing the bombers, who traveled to Dagestan for months just after he had a child, whose parents who brought him here for 'asylum' had left the country after the mother was arrested. One of their friends had a license plate frame saying 'terrorista #1', Russia actually red flagged the guy for them to no avail.
So they also had all of this collected data. Still those two murderers got to murder.

(45,319 posts)are not being welcomed nor trusted. There are those who have claimed that the law says 'if the President does it, it is not illegal'. Slavery was the law.
And my Senators and Representative are critical of these practices in no uncertain terms, so I don't need any new Congress people, thanks. Some others need to go. But to pretend this is uncontested in the Congress is dishonest as the day is long.
