Apalachicola out of the only job that they, their Dads, grandfathers and great-grandfathers had. Now they are thrust into the work force except they cannot read because when you drop out in 6th grade to oyster with your dad, you don't pay much attention for those years. So the state of Florida has to put the whole town on welfare and they get to choose b/w getting a GED, welding school, or truck driving school, all at taxpayer, not BP's, expense! Meanwhile, BP plays the same BS commercial on all channels 24/7/365 telling people to, "Come on down to the Coast..." Except that these folks are already at the coast b/c they live there. BP becomes the biggest advertiser on TV, radio and print on the coast so those media outlets would never write or show the story of the Oystermen of Apalachicola b/c they don't want to lose the ad money! Sad it's all true and that this is just one small part of the Gulf Coast!

Agreed, Matt would get my vote, too.

1997. Geez, Shrub had been governor for about four years. and Will describes the RW agenda and future perfectly.

So what did I think? I'm holdin' out for somethin' better. I figure fuck it, while I'm at it why not just shoot my buddy, take his job, give it to his sworn enemy, hike up gas prices, bomb a village, club a baby seal, hit the hash pipe and join the National Guard? I could be elected president.

If anyone could have connected the dots, Howard Zinn would have been the one; he was most likely the wisest sage Matt encountered.
