Shake up the system

Let us say that tomorrow a new tax law goes into effect. This law constitutes a tax cut and so should be appealing to Republicans while at the same time deals only with working-class people, and so should also appeal to Democrats.

Make employee pension income tax-free up to some limit (let us say $50k per year) for retirees between the ages of 55 and 65.

Pensions have become nearly nonexistent over the last 25 or so years, just think what making pension income tax-free would do to the demand for their return. Such a tax exemption would cause a lot of early retirements, making room for new hiring and so should have a positive effect on unemployment. And finally by putting a relatively low limit on the income exempted the benefits would fall squarely on the middle class, both young and old, with much less relative benefit to the rich.

That's why we need a congress like the one FDR had to work with.

I do like the idea of incentivizing early retirement!
