(84,711 posts)what else is there to say. I rarely recommend your posts these days because you changed so much. I even posted on threads asking "why" you had changed from Anti-War Crusader to just Pro-whatever our President Elect wants to do.
You never answered me ...who replied and kicked your posts through the Bush Years.
I don't know "who you are"...so just saying that.
But, I don't depend on you for my daily news. So...whatever you are doing these days...it's up to you to find your followers...which you have done.

(10,597 posts)kpete, I like you whether I agree OR disagree with you.
Those paintings are really good. Go larger. Or make them larger into a print, add a frame, and instant mega$s. Are those the only ones you've done? I didn't check your webpage... will do that after while. You need to get your local Art Gallary to show it, when you feel like you have enough to show. Does your local Art Gallary ever have a showing of your community's art? If so, you need to jump into one one of these days. Be-autiful!
done that,

showed my work in SOHO, etc., etc.
sold some pieces and still miss them....

Your website is blocked by my work network as "uncategorized". If you could find out how to "categorize" your domain (thru your web hoster, perhaps) call it "Arts And Entertainment > Visual Arts And Design". (See: http://www.similarweb.com/category). Anyting other than "ADULT" and I should be able to see it.

(15,435 posts)I've been a member of DU since 2004 and have read thousands of your posts. THIS I never knew of. BRAVO!!! You're not only extremely informed intellectually, you're fantastically talented.
I bookmarked your website to refer to. From what I understand you don't sell your art, am I correct?
I rarely post here, or anywhere anymore as I've found that I generally come away more and more depressed as time goes by. If there are my type of "liberals" around anymore, we are small in number and mostly ignored. As a BOOMER I DO understand that times change and we must change with it, but the change I see more and more of fills me with fear.
I have tried so very hard for so many years to do my duty as a citizen involving myself in many, many causes. But these days as my income dwindles, I get email after email to DONATE to hundreds of "progressive-somewhat liberal" causes which I'm unable to help with. A notion crosses my mind that if ALL of these groups would cobble together some real change could be made, but as it is more and more groups pop up and cohesion seems less.
I'm now in my middle 60's and never thought I would have days in my life that I say "I'm kind of glad that my time here is shorter." Not a very optimistic quote for sure, but does cross my mind. I have a grandson who graduated from FSU and we often talk. We are VERY VERY close and I enjoy talking with him about what he sees ahead for him and his generation. It is EYE OPENING to be sure. He's a progressive in a completely different way. He cares, is opposed to all the obstruction he sees, but he also says he "needs" to focus on HIS goals just to survive.
There is a huge gap between my generation and his. My caring and his caring are on an absolutely different plateau. The propeller props are moving at an ever more faster pace, where there seems to be so little time to digest something before you have to move on to the next.
What I'm going to say next IS NOT racist in any way and I fervently hope that what I say is understood. I grew up at a time when we fought for civil rights (al la Martin Luther King) which I was active with. I was raised as an army brat until I left home & because of Viet Nam wanted nothing more to do with military life. In the recesses of my mind, and I haven't researched this book in any way, but I recall one that was titled "Little Black Sambo!" A book that has never completely faded from my memory, but one that too many people found acceptable to read to their kids. Innocent at the time, I now view it with disgust.
But in the book, as I recall it, there was a tiger running around the tree chasing after a little black boy, they go faster and faster until somehow butter is made. What was the message? But that's is how I NOW see things happening all over the world. Running around faster and faster, but to what end??
Why your pictures prompted me to go on like this I can't say, but deep down they touch a nerve of where I have lived. I now see in your art, what I feel in my heart. WHERE ARE WE GOING?
Thank you for sharing. And forgive the reference above, I mean NO malice. If anyone remembers the book, I could be wrong about the whole thing. Don't think I can Google it, but never tried.
not only are you and i the same age (i will be 62 this year), but you write in words - what i try to paint.
your references (yes even the ones we hate to admit) swirl around my mind as well
your statement: "I'm kind of glad that my time here is shorter." crosses my mind too.
what an amazing piece of history this has been?
what mind blowing times....
my work has been SO inspired by DU,
for years i have dropped my work off here,
to later process and finally place on the canvas.
These works are a healthy regurgitation for me in troubled times.
lets hope we are wrong about the future.
peace, and thank you so much,

(15,435 posts)It IS unfortunate that having known how it was, and to be sure there was upheaval, but the upheaval seemed to be something we were able to do something about. And we did. I recall the bombings, Black Panthers, protests against the war and I actually lived in TX when we still had black & white drinking fountains. I SAW them, it was an outrage.
It was tragic, but there was a strange irony about where I went to school. Because it was at Ft. Hood, TX we actually had integrated schools BECAUSE the kids from black families had no other school to attend. But that was all they got.
Almost to a person they were on the football and basketball teams, and super players, better than most. However, when they traveled they were denied admittance to the little cafes and diners when it came time to eat. Thankfully the coaches stood their ground, stood up to the owners and said if they weren't allowed, then none of them would spend money there. By them standing up and putting their necks on the line, they let it be known that they weren't going to take it laying down. TODAY, I see almost nothing of that anymore. And especially from those in D.C. on BOTH sides.
Who do we fight for when even those we supported are UNWILLING to fight for us? It seems that they talk, then roll over. We used to have a saying "get some shit in your neck" which of course is self explanatory. I find it hard these days to find many who even understand what it means.
Even as jaded as I've become and have forced myself to stand on the sidelines, in my gut I still feel I should be doing something. I live in one of the reddest counties in FL and it's extremely hard to get 100 people together for anything. Our Occupy Group started with about 100, but by the time I left, there were 7 or 8. I had high hopes.
Anyway, I do keep myself busy helping in other ways. There are many around here who are older and need assistance with so much. Too many get sucked into the system because they don't understand who, what or where to turn to for help. The paperwork, etc is Greek to them. So I do still contribute. But more walls are going up and some days I just want to scream.
So enough of my diatribe, thank you for your reply and again my hat is off too you. And seeing the past work and the work you are doing today, DOES say volumes. Amazing how you juggle it all.
Much LOVE & PEACE to you too.
