"...a greater percentage of women to federal judgeships than any other president..."

Obama Has Named More Women Judges Than Predecessor

When President Barack Obama nominated two women to a key appeals court last week, he was adding to his lead when it comes to adding women to the federal bench, according to a new study.

Obama has successfully appointed a greater percentage of women to federal judgeships than any other president in American history, the study released Tuesday by the left-leaning Alliance for Justice concluded. The study doesn't include the two recent nominees to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit—Patricia Millett and Cornelia Pillard. (Neither pick has been confirmed.)

Forty-two percent of Obama's successful nominations have been women, according to the study. That's well above the rates of President George W. Bush (22 percent) and President Bill Clinton (29 percent), the study found. President Obama is the first president to appoint two women to the Supreme Court.

"This administration deserves credit for working to create a federal judiciary that more closely reflects the richness and diversity of the American people," said AFJ President Nan Aron.

1. Very good. This is what is needed. We need more equal representation in our judicial branch.

This will have ramifications far beyond what we would have imagined before. What, more liberal women judges? This augers well for abortion rights and the rights of women in general. It is a great thing!

As the mother of 2 girls and the grandmother of 3 girls, I am thrilled beyond belief! This is a great step forward at long last!!!

This is exactly what is needed. More liberal female judges are precisely what this country needs. I'm thrilled, also. It bodes well for abortion/healthcare/reproductive rights and it will make a lasting impression for years!

Wow, congratulations on the two daughters and and three granddaughters. I have a daughter, myself.

I'm a mother by choice, not government or religious edict. Hopefully these judges will give every woman in this country the options they need and deserve.

particularly happy since it seemed for a while that we were going backward. But now I see a different perspective and I feel it is only a matter of time until the old sexism is outgrown and replaced by so many achieving females coming of age.

I was just attending my stepdaughter's ordination as a Reform rabbi last weekend and I cried tears of joy when the president of her rabbinical school gently placed his hands on her head and on her shoulders and when she read from the Torah. And I'm not even Jewish (nor any religion), but this was just too overwhelming!

I have been to all of those cities, except Naples. Rome is big but full of flavor and Caravaggio! And I have a special place in my heart for Palermo, a lovely city with a great heartbeat! I am hoping to take my fifth trip to Italy in another year or so....

President Obama is the greatest advocate for women's rights of any President in history. Supporting equal pay, signing the VAWA act, so many other achievements.

And he is not afraid to appear before Planned Parenthood and personally thank them for their work for women's health care. I have great respect for him for that alone.

impossibly long, reason poor screeds bashing President Obama haven't weighed in yet. Maybe, like a dog that chases every car that come by, they too get tired and just have to watch cars roll by for a while.

5-6 people? I know a small handful have always thought they owned GD but it's been even worse than usual. At one point yesterday, the same person had four OPs in a row on the front page of this forum. And each one just attacking, snarling, attacking, snarling.

If their attempt was to look "passionate" instead of "unhinged," I'm afraid they failed miserably.

One would think that they'd welcome this type of good news, but so far they're nowhere to be seen on this thread. You never hear much from them when it comes to any good news about the President or when it comes to anything messed-up that the Congress Republicans are doing.
