Here’s a new one – the Rapture Right is now claiming the increase on sexual assaults within the US military is due to the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. What’s the reasoning, you ask? Seems the troops are suddenly sex-obsessed because they are finally free to talk about it now. Y’know, because they never talked about sex before (!)

So their heads are swimming with images of sweaty men in tight fatigues, lonely female cadets sharing a shower, what Iraqi women look like under those grill covers . . . all because they’re talking about the repeal of DADT. And when servicemen talk about sex, they have no choice but to rape their female counterparts and/or force them into prostitution.

Makes sense, right?

Tony Perkins, the head of the “Family Research Council,” (Newspeak for Kooky Christian Fundies) predicted this rise in sexual assaults now that the military no longer discriminates against gays:

So we’ve seen this rise of homosexual assault since the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, so it is this sexualization of the military where sex becomes the focal point and it shouldn’t be. When there was Don’t Ask Don’t Tell nobody knew and that’s the way they preferred it and now it becomes front and center.

But, but, the recent reports of harassment and assaults have all be heterosexual, Tony. Male violence against women. Are you suggesting that these rapes are being perpetrated by gay men against straight women? If so, did military service miraculously make them straight? And then wouldn’t you want to encourage gay men to enter the army so they, too, can be “cured” and become good (straight) soldiers in the Army of the Lord?

Guess not. Tony is also worried that the military will now be setting homosexual “quotas” that must be fulfilled to meet some indeterminate percentage that the heathen liberals will demand.

I was talking with Gen. Jerry Boykin about this about how there will soon be quotas so that people who are openly gay or lesbian, that will be a factor that is considered when they’re promoted in a positive sense, ‘well we’ve got to have so many open homosexuals, so many lesbians, we’ve got to promote them.’ The ramifications of this, the unintended consequences are far and wide.

Poor Tony sees the coming of a mighty gay army that will rise like a colossus and institute a new Sodom and Gomorrah to overturn our proud Godly war-making institutions and replace the red-white-and-blue with rainbows and ruffles, and trade camouflage for chintz.

Tony forgets, of course, the vast numbers of historical warriors whose sexual preferences bore little bearing on their ability to kill and maim. Alexander the Great, Joan of Arc, Lawrence of Arabia, General Frederick Von Steuben, and King Richard the Lionhearted, just to name a few.

But the Rapture Right only respects the selective history of their bigoted Bible-thumping leaders who fear the gay agenda almost as much as the swarthy Muslims that are certainly lurking in every shadow corner of this nation.

Kinda sad to live with such fear and hatred, isn’t it?

Meanwhile the Giants lost AGAIN to the Pirates! Bummer...but it seems that the Pirates are FINALLY going to see a postseason after how many years, 20?

It's going to be in the mid/upper 70s and sunny most of the next week where I'm at.
