Report: Snowden Stored Documents On Thumb Drive

Report: Snowden Stored Documents On Thumb Drive

National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden used a computer thumb drive to store classified documents regarding top secret surveillance programs, according to a report published Thursday in the Los Angeles Times.

The report, citing U.S. officials, said that the 29-year-old former government contractor smuggled the documents out of an NSA facility in Hawaii and that investigators know how many documents he took and from which server he obtained them.

Additionally, the Times noted that computer thumb drives are "supposedly barred" inside the NSA, although exceptions are made for employees who need them.

"But when you use one, people always look at you funny," a former NSA official told the Times.

This is pretty elementary. It shows what idiots the security agencies are. They are looking for trouble when they allow thumbdrives.

I can't believe with the kind of money this country spends and the number of people who work in government security and intelligence AND then to come and find out the system has huge glaring holes the size of the Grand Canyon like this one.

...the last secure installation I was in, they didn't even have USB ports on their systems. For obvious reasons. You'd think the NSA could figure that out.

I guess even for the NSA, convenience sometimes outweighs security.

Not just the 41 slide power point.

What is he planning to do with them? Sell them to the highest bidder?

yes it is relevant, but it would help if that was the heading of the OP, or commented about by the OP, it is relevant, but not a surprise to me, anyone who thought he took a few slides and one document to prove that clapper was lying was only kidding themself.
i fully expect this to be a loooong saga, with the documents being released drip by drip with just enough time between each leak for those responsible to keep hanging themselves due to their own lies.
because thats how any sensible person would play this if they really wanted to end the surveillance state.
leak and let them lie some more, leak again to prove the lie, rinse and repeat?

19. im not afraid, i have hope, hope that my government and the EU grow some balls

i hope that the scum at google et all, who enabled the spying, get bankrupted by the lawsuits that will soon be announced.
i hope that the EU ends all security cooperation with the US and ends the phony war on terror, because i am more likely to die crossing the road than from a attack from one of my muslim brothers and sisters, at least as long as "we" arent droning them and invading their lands. and lets be honest here, even when we DO invade their lands and destroy them for profit i am more likely to die when i cross the road than from a terror attack. so i hope you understand why i dont think its worth giving up my freedoms and human rights for this?

i doubt all my hopes will come to being, but i dont think my hope is completely misplaced, these leaks are historic, and now we will get to see if the EU and the countries that form it are really independent, or just puppets of the US living in fear of your massive armies and nukes.

do you hope for a world where we dont live in fear, fear of war, fear of government tyranny?
because i have had enough of war, and people dying so that sick sociopaths can profit.
