Beginning January 2012, people in Switzerland may legally grow 4 cannabis plants at home

Last edited Sat Dec 17, 2011, 03:47 PM - Edit history (1)

if they want to grow more than 4, they have to receive permission and register with their canton.

edited to note: this is for 4 French-speaking cantons, cheri.

(the link is in French - 420 has the article available via google translate in the link below - not exactly smooth but it does get the general idea across)

Earlier this month, Copenhagen put together a proposal to legalize cannabis in that city. The proposal has to be approved by the Danish Parliament, which will meet on this issue early in 2012.

The Basques are moving to legalize cannabis in their region.

"It's better to regulate than to ban," said Jesus Maria Fernandez, second in command at the region's health authority. Regulating "the growing, sale, and consumption of cannabis" is a better approach to pot smoking, he said, calling it "a practice that is already consolidated."

More and more cities, regions and nations are pushing back against zero tolerance that is the failed legacy of Ronald Reagan. Since Reagan's actions, cannabis has become an even bigger worldwide industry that generates ever greater profits that are not taxed for use by the states in which they are made.

1. Regulate...and TAX. Heck, sell it in the package stores or pharmacies!

People will pay a fairly generous price to be able to enjoy the product in peace.

6. That's really the only effective method of control

Works with ethyl alcohol and tobacco.

3. It's only a misdemeanor to grow 5 plant in the Czech Republic - and has been since 2010

http://blogs.wsj.com/emergingeurope/2009/12/08/czech-govt-allows-5-cannabis-plants-for-personal-use-from-2010/

"As of Jan. 1 ordinary Czechs can grow up to five marijuana plants or have several marijuana cigarettes in their pockets without fear of criminal prosecution. Previously what constituted a small amount was not specified and the police and courts loosely interpreted the penal code case by case, often resulting in incarceration of home growers."

9. Seriously

We were in Basel a couple of weeks ago - first visit there. Great city. I'd move there in a heartbeat if i could speak Swiss German. Not for the weed, just because it seemed like a really nice place to be.

5. if you see the pictures of some plants ppl grow

the buds are a foot long.

I've seen video of the ways that people grow these days but I've never tried to grow cannabis myself.

12. I've seen photos of outdoor Sativa plants

in Australia that are the size of an apple tree -- all that growth coming in a single season.

10. In some French-speaking cantons

rather than for the whole country - just in case anyone was packing their bags and heading for Zurich.

11. yes. thanks for that clarification

personally, if I were going to pack my bags, I'd head for the Czech Republic. But that's not very likely to be in my future. I do know someone who lives there but don't have the sort of cash that would make such a move possible.
