Rule is in place for transgender athletes in Nebraska schools, but it hasn't been tested

I'm often mad at the NSAA over some things it does. Not today: https://nsaahome.org/

Nearly six months after it went into effect, a Nebraska School Activities Association policy for transgender students in school sports and other activities remains untested.

No schools have worked their way through a process that allows a transgender athlete to participate on a sports team of the gender with which he or she identifies — so long as the student meets certain criteria. And no school officials, parents or community members have raised objections to the new rules.

In short, the policy has been a nonissue, even though it sets Nebraska apart from other states, including Iowa, that don't have specific rules for transgender student-athletes on the books.

Rhonda Blanford-Green, NSAA's executive director, proposed the new policy in November, four months after she left a similar job in Colorado to move to Nebraska. The former Husker track standout said she didn't intend to make waves or turn talk to politics.
