OK. Uncle. I've got it. Only Saints Should EVER Be Whistleblowers.

Of course even then those who for whatever reason can't deal with discussing what's been revealed or brought up, will find something. Maybe it'll be: "he/she has a martyr complex, and you know the people with martyr complexes can't be trusted".

I'm finding the level of attacks on Snowden here at DU quite extraordinary. And not just the level; the fury and hate directed toward him. It's weird.

Now maybe he's six kinds of an asshole. And maybe he's even some kind of Chinese mole or he did it for money or there's always the Naomi Wolf theory that he's a government run whatever, but at least we're talking about this stuff. or rather some of us are trying to- above the sturm und drang that destroying Snowden entails.

I think this is as unfortunate a state as I've ever seen DU in.

YOU keep saying it isn't about Snowden & refuse to care about the VERACITY of what was reported regarding the NSA via Snowden.

The absolute unwillingness of so many DU'ers to give a shit about finding the truth about what the NSA and its practises is screwed up. Reactionary screamers are just ranting in thread after thread about crap and oblivious to actual information.

You need to check your own head, cupcake.

I don't even care what he revealed. I've known for quite some time that this country has a massive surveillance capacity. I know we have an enormous national security apparatus that has a long and well documented history of activities with little oversight. I know that both my Senators are deeply concerned about these agencies, and particularly the NSA, trampling on 4th Amendment rights. And both Leahy and Sanders believe that the NSA has done so. To me, the most vital thing is that we discuss the national security state and ALL it entails. And that's a lot.

so, honeypie (they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, pumpkin, but I think it simply demonstrates a perfectly dismal lack of imagination, dumpling) now you know: I believe, as do Senators Leahy and Sanders that this is a matter of concern.

What I've noticed is that often here at DU
people get into an argument even though in
many cases they are making the same case,
more or less -- but misunderstanding each other
and thinking they're on different sides.

This leads to moldy muffins, sour milk,
all that.

10. K &R....An important related story here
Sun Jun 16, 2013, 12:54 PM

is the extremely disturbing propaganda machine that the corporate plutocracy is creating and increasingly implementing to replace the free press of a democratic society. From the purchased mainstream media to the incessant political astroturfing of the internet, the propaganda machine in this country has never been more manipulative, dishonest, non-transparent, relentless, and determinedly pervasive, systematically infiltrating even discussion boards like DU.

What is being done to this country is well beyond creepy and disturbing at this point. We have been overtaken by corporatists intent on corporate fascism, and we have *already* been stripped of major foundations of our free society, including our right to privacy, our right to free speech and free association, our right to protest, and, increasingly, the free press that was our most important alarm for and protection against government abuse and tyranny.

If you're a reporter for a "respected" newspaper or TV news outlet, they're more than happy to assist you with your propaganda.

If you're a blogger, or work for an "amateur" organization, like Democracy Now, they beat the shit out of you and throw you in jail.

And every glop of decomposing fecal slime that participates in the sliming of Edward Snowden has fucking shamed himself and DU.

It's a form of bullying, and it's a disgrace to DU and its administrators that it is allowed here.

This behavior is mean-spirited, unworthy and un-American.

Breaking news: Edward Snowden, Bradley Manning, Julian Assange, and Aaron Schwarz were and are human beings. Who do bad things sometimes, as we all do, and sometimes do insanely great things, as they did for democracy and transparency. But watch as the smearmeisters dig through everything, and go to any length to reveal any perceived sin, so they can portray these human beings as the spawn of Satan.

I'll say it again - when they engage in this character assassination, they reveal nothing about their targets's characters, but they expose the core of their own characters, which emits a foul stench of decay you can smell from the next time zone.

These bullies are the kinds of people I am PROUD to call my enemies, proud to insult, and proud to put in my ignore lists. If I were Skinner, I'd tell each of them to get the fuck lost and go back to the snickering and nastiness on Free Republic, Red State and Conservative Cave. I wouldn't want to smell them here.

And that he was secretly raised in Shanghai so no one would know?

It's my opinion that his lack of an advanced degree is really fucking with a lot of peoples' world-view. The notion that you don't have to be a professional student in order to be smart is really sticking in a lot of craws.
