The end is nigh: Mosquitoes 20 times larger than normal invade Florida.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2338446/Gallinippers-invade-Monster-mosquitoes-20-TIMES-size-normal-bug-invade-central-Florida-heavy-rains.html

Giant mosquitoes the size of a quarter are invading central Florida and officials are warning residents to beware of the 'notoriously aggressive' bloodsuckers.

Entomologists at the University of Florida predicted the massive insects, known as gallinippers, would descend on the sunshine state in record numbers this year after drenching rains from Tropical Storm Debbie. Now the mammoth monsters have arrived, being spotted in Seminole County.

The frightening supermosquitoes, native to the eastern half of the United States, are 20 times the size of an ordinary mosquito and their bite is unusually painful...

...Indian River County mosquito control director Doug Carlson told WPTV the bugs are so big 'it can feel like a small bird has landed on you' when you get bitten.

Now that old joke about the two mosquitos talking outside the tent makes perfect sense.

Always have. I can't sleep with one in the room, I have to kill it first. We get some big ones here in the Northwest too.

Crazy ants invade the Tampa Bay area and infest everything from cell phones to computers

The ants have been spotted in 20 Florida counties

Posted: 06/16/2013

TAMPA BAY - Like something out of a bad sci-fi flick, they're showing up by the shovel-full. Look close, that's not a pile of dirt outside of this Tampa, Fla. home - those are millions and millions of dead crazy ants.

"Unlike a regular colony that might have hundreds or thousands of ants, these have hundreds of thousands and millions of ants," said Chet Rowland, owner of Chet's Termite & Pest Management in Tampa.

The "tawny crazy ant" is native to Argentina and Brazil, but it's been moving into the southern United States in record numbers. First sighted in Houston in 2002, the ants have since moved on to 21 counties in Texas, 20 counties in Florida, and a few sites in Mississippi and Louisiana.

Once they get somewhere, they begin multiplying. Researchers at the University of Texas, Austin say crazy ant colonies can reach densities 100 times greater than all the other ants in their area combined.
