Giving Back Where Our Associates Live, Work and Play. It's not what you gather in life, but what you scatter in life,
that tells the kind of life you've lived
and the kind of person you are. Helen Walton
What she and her family have scattered is personal wealth for themselves and their stockholders while their employees depend on the public dole to survive.
Hypocrisy defined.

And the more they spend at her dumps the more she makes.
A regular fucking gem, she is.

(39,191 posts)Really Helen? Shitty wages, shitty stores, shitty products, and prices that are shittier than most places in the retail world.
They have created an illusion of discounts, destroyed Main Street, and ruined the lives of countless families all the while claiming they are good for America.
Hogwash.

(2,615 posts)where I lived 52 years ago.
When I left in 1961 the main town square was a thriving hub of small business. Two 5 and dimes, a Sears and a Montgomery Wards, drug stores, clothing stores, jewelry stores, 2 theaters, newspaper, radio station, etc. Literally everything a small town needed.
As I approached the town I discovered about 2 miles worth of strip malls and shopping centers filled with all the usual suspects; Walmart, Kmart, CVS Drugs, a multiplex cinema and a dozen fast food outlets.
The old town square? A few bars, a few non-chain restaurants, a tattoo parlor, a smattering of gift shops. Closed or abandoned buildings outnumbered those still open. The whole town looked as worn out and run down as the town square.
I can just imagine how many thousands of other small towns have suffered a similar fate because of Walmart and similar chain stores.
