So let's keep this straight. The Republicans in Congress are ok with the alleged NSA spying.

Not a surprise because it's their program, it fits their modus operandi, it's their guys running it. They think that getting Snowden is the most important thing here. They are consistently against whistle-blowers that try to expose illegal authoritarian rule.

Those that are looking for the truth are congressional Democrats like Wyden, Udall and Grayson. They dont trust the Republicans and their spy machines. They think that further investigations are warranted more than chasing Snowden.

So where do the so-called "centrists" side in this discussion?

9. Buying off politicians (with inside information as to their prices), IMO, is much better

than scaring or blackmailing them.

Blackmail, when politicians can otherwise be bought, is logically reserved as a last resort.

How can politicians be bought? What do they want? High-paying jobs for their spouses? College admissions and scholarships at prestige universities for this children? Post-political employment? Recreational drugs? Whatever they want, the super-rich can buy it for them - if they only have some insight as to what it is, specificially, that the politicians want.

11. I see the big difference in blackmail and buying-off is that blackmail

is invisible. Who in Congress is currently being blackmailed? We can see who is bought off.

If current posts are to be believed. The Repukes want a totalitarian society with cameras in certain peoples bedrooms. Wiretaps on all phone lines of their political enemies and spies in OWS to cause nothing but trouble.

3. Al Franken doesn't believe in Snowden.

If Snowden wanted to get 99% of the world on his side, all he had to do was show more evidence than a PowerPoint slide.

He clearly did not have the access he claims.

5. I havent seen a comment from Sen Franken re Snowden. And how does that outweigh apparently

all the Congressional Republicans?

Why do we have to wait for Snowden to prove anything. We can investigate just fine without him.

Do you think we should investigate further?

8. Hell, yeah, investigate away! I don't mind having better restrictions put into place.

Better respect for privacy, better controls for access.

But apparently the means of access is not as easy as Snowden claimed because he wasn't able to give us an example of what he's talking about.

I have no problem whatsoever with revisiting privacy issues. I'm not an NSA booster, just not willing to believe anything Snowden says without something to back it up with.

4. IMO ...

Wyden, Udall and Grayson ... the ones calling for further investigation (including investigation of snowden) ... ARE the "centrists."

The extremes are those calling for snowden's head on a pike AND those declaring snowden a national hero.

brought to their attention what a wonderful cash cow the NSA is and are beginning to reassert the need to combat the dreaded terrorist threat.
As to the republican rank and file, for a good laugh go look at any right wing forum.
It's a cross between a James Bond movie and Saturday morning cartoons.
"The patriot act isn't the problem, it's Obama's misuse of the.........."
"The fourth amendment applies to when you're in you're house or in you're car"

You just can't make stuff like that up folks.

I think the rank and file hasn't been told what to think at the moment, however I'm sure Karl Rove is working on it.
