deserves any more of a pass than conscious racism does?

Both should be called out and neither should be tolerated.

And it is a real problem.

It's just that it is wrong (and lazy) for people to automatically assume that subconscious racism is the reason for any and all disagreements with, or criticisms of, leaders who happen to be racially different from the critic.
