Perhaps the new peeps are in the cities on the East and West coasts. One thing is certain, more folks all across the nation today are glued to their sets.

These days everyone expects every store to have it's own parking lot and they act like walking the length of a football field is gonna give em a heart attack.

What used to be streets chock full of successful small businesses are reduced to a few sterilized buildings here and there. Shade trees were taken down and never replaced. A wading pool was turned into a dirt pool planted with patches of low maintenance ornamental grass. A city square with gardens was turned into a big patch of hardscape on the side of what used to be a fountain in the center.

Honestly, if I hadn't been aware of what wealth concentration and Wal Mart had colluded to do to this country, I'd guess that a plague had swept the area and wiped out most of the population.

Damn, this was one sad tour through a small city. I see the same thing being done to my own city.

Such is the price of progress, I suppose. But seeing an empty, unused field where used to be a thriving theater makes you wonder what we've lost as the price for what we've gained.

Many of the current scenes have a distinctly tacky look as compared to the historical shot. Where there were once buildings that were built with some style, there might be today an ugly, plain structure with all the soul of a pane of glass. Sometimes they just tear down a building and put up a parking lot. Unfortunately these scenes are all too typical. This series is fascinating but not too encouraging.
