" CBS/AP) The six women chosen to sit on the jury that will weigh George Zimmerman's fate may be sympathetic to the former neighborhood watch captain's case, one defense expert says -- though their views on guns, crime and community will likely be more relevant in the deliberation room than their gender... (27,677 posts)From the Leatherman Law Blog...
5 of the 6 women are white. One is Hispanic.
5 of the 6 women are mothers.
I would be very worried, if I were George Zimmerman, because I believe those mothers are not going to believe him. I think they are going to hold him accountable for killing an unarmed teenager.
I am unhappy that none of the jurors are black, but I do not believe that is going to affect the final outcome of this case.

(27,677 posts)and Mark O'Mara was quite effective at striking any black prospective juror, for non-racial reasons of course.

(62,444 posts)If you ever want a roomful of experienced lawyers to look at you funny, tell them something is a "slam dunk". Use that exact phrase.
And watch them take a breath while thinking of how to most tactfully ask you, "Son, have you ever been in a real mud wrestling match?"
"Experts" - "Slam dunk".... Yeah, sure guys. Just what are they "experts" in?

(28,072 posts)My first thought was any moms among those jurors are going to identify with Trayvon's mother. I'm not a mom but I can't imagine what she's been through - her child goes out to buy a snack and never comes back? I would think it's every parent's nightmare.

(550 posts)I'd give an edge to the defense and that's it. no more.
But if you think about it, it makes the framing of the lawyer's message that much easier.
For example, if you can make some associations that can put them in Georges shoes. Afterall, how often is a woman beaten in their lives by an aggressive young beau or husband? How often do they wish they had had a gun to prevent or stop it? How often are women accused of provoking a rapist by doing something perfectly legal though not exactly smart?
You may not agree with this characterization, but it very well might be possible to convey it in a much better way than i just did.
I think we will quickly find out who is the more competent lawyer is in this one

(25,183 posts)I've been saying this for months, he knows that his fee range will be in the tens of millions of dollars if he can win a full acquittal for someone already fully convicted in the media, someone "everyone knows is guilty".
With 100% women on the jury, five of them white, one Hispanic, and two of them gun owners, he's done a superb job of stacking that panel. You think he was playing the best cards he held in the pre-trial period? You ain't seen nothing yet. He's going to put Trayvon Martin on trial here. Given the make up of the jury, he's off to a fine start.

I hope folks in journalism school aren't looking to the current environment as the "standard" in journalism.
Or bloggers who pretend to be "journalists"
I don't know if there is another profession that has gone downhill more in the past 15 years-
