Lately I've heard . . . It doesn't exist anymore. Just a figment of our imaginations. I don't know what to believe anymore.

But 0- I thank those three men and countless others for their efforts to end Jim Crow and slavery by another name.

Big cities, esp. NYC, Stop and Frisk program, where police have admitted the purpose is to keep blacks "in their place"

the screamingly high rate of black incarceration, and the continuing war on drugs to justify it.

The repeated jerrymandering of minority districts
The repeated attempts to disenfranchise black voters, including those in the military.
The constant dog whistles of the Reich Wing, in various media formats.

You can believe it is still happening.

Claims that there is no racism in America anymore, so with that delusional mindset I can see them striking the 1965 Voter Right Act, section 5. This will open the door to more voter suppression especially in the South.

Waffen SS soldiers (at Bitburg, Germany) in May of 1985. A true piece of shit, not fit to shine the boots of the brave soldiers of the U.S., USSR and other allies who fought the Nazis, his political success an insult to their memory.

Blood pressure going up, so stopping for now. But thanks for remembering.

I was in the Navy at the time and was one of the few hundred sent to Meridian Mississippi to search for them.

When I wrote it all out it brought back some memories..things I had not thought of in years...And I probably would not have done it had a Duer not encouraged me to.
there are some therapeutic things that happen here.

This period of time was very hard to live through. I was in high school and this particular incident really bothered me, to my soul. It was an awakening that put me on the path of my journey to where I am today.

It may sound funny to some, but I thought that the problem was solved with Rosa Parks...when I went there I was shocked to learn the depth of the evil that existed in our own country.

I first heard the song from Magpie, who sing it here with Kim Harris:

But Harry Belafonte's version is also very moving: http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&feature=endscreen&v=sG6FVKBMOyU
