The 1%ers will never give up the power of total information awareness. They have too many trillions of dollars at stake!!! The only small bump in the road facing our overlords since the Snowden revelations is the implementation of contingency B or C or some cool name like Operation "Mow the Grass" or Operation "What the fuck you lookin' at?" No, the only thing we have to look forward to is the next phase of a graduated response. The initial push is to pacify people with the idea that "everybody knew we were doing it" or "You are a moron if you didn't know this was happening" or "So what? I am not doing anything wrong so it doesn't effect me!" The phase after that probably entails striking while the iron is hot as it was after 9/11. The next dramatic act of terrorism will seal the deal. That is especially true if it happens in the US. At that point, they will go full on fear mode. Sadly, Americans will follow the ball like a golden retriever puppy that hasn't been outside in weeks.
We're fucked! Get used to it!
Cheers!

(3,991 posts)I'm happy. Look at my last post, from the science forum.

Right now I feel like I'm the guy with a $3 brain, a $0.50 body and a $10,000,000 sense of intuition.
So here's the thing about "total information awareness". I saw a talk from a good scientist and clear thinker from Google, which he provocatively called the "Quantum conspiracy". The mind blowing take away point from it, was that the quantum concept of entanglement, and the quantum concept of observation, were the same thing. To observe a thing is to become entangled with it. The thing observed changes when observed (the big shock of quantum mechanics, no passive observation, death of determinism) and also, relevant here, the observer must be changed by what it observes.
That post in the Science forum I linked to, shows the amazing ways these ideas are leaking up to larger levels of existence than we saw before. It appears they effect us all at more fundamental levels than we thought. The information theoretic views of QM seem to inform us in some ways about the world we world we experience at the macro-level too.
So that said, I challenge you to rethink this "total information awareness" business. Here's the fundamental axiom: Everything they hear us say changes them in some way. They cannot observe us without being entangled with us. That places us in a de facto position of power: The classical idea of "knowledge is power" goes out the window - as the source of the spy's knowledge, we become the source of their power, which implies we HAVE power. Our fates entangled in theirs.
This idea, of having power over those who watch you based on the fact that they are watching you may sound crazy, but it is in fact correct. Trust the universe, and PEace!
