WikiLeaks Statement On Edward Snowden’s Exit From Hong Kong - UPDATED

Sunday June 23, 17:50 BST

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mr Edward Snowden, the American whistleblower who exposed evidence of a global surveillance regime conducted by US and UK intelligence agencies, has left Hong Kong legally. He is bound for the Republic of Ecuador via a safe route for the purposes of asylum, and is being escorted by diplomats and legal advisors from WikiLeaks.

Mr Snowden requested that WikiLeaks use its legal expertise and experience to secure his safety. Once Mr Snowden arrives in Ecuador his request will be formally processed.

Former Spanish Judge Mr Baltasar Garzon, legal director of Wikileaks and lawyer for Julian Assange has made the following statement:

"The WikiLeaks legal team and I are interested in preserving Mr Snowden’s rights and protecting him as a person. What is being done to Mr Snowden and to Mr Julian Assange - for making or facilitating disclosures in the public interest - is an assault against the people".

MY USA's Constitution says I have a right NOT to spied upon by my government. We all win when we know the truth - and hopefully do something about it.

There's more than one issue involved and it's not about you.

You probably use Google and allow it to track all of your pages and advertise back to you, right?

emails? During summits? Is that what you mean?

You know, if you are doing something wrong; immoral, it isn't quite called letting someone else dominate on an issue, when you've been outed doing that wrong. You do realize that, don't you?

Let me put it in more basic terms that you might understand more easily:

If you steal the cookies out of the cookie jar, and your brother tells on you, you don't earn points for being a victim by crying because you're brother told on you. Understand?
