President Obama, please make a show of taking the security state by the horns

So the President's approval rating is now below 50% among Americans 18-29, and NSA-POLOOZA has been identified as the seeming culprit.

Young people today are their phone.

You cannot mess with THE PHONE.

Young people will tolerate intrusions and indignities that we older folks can scarcely imagine. We are not used to lock-downs and random pee testing and having photos of our junk broadcast... but we don't have the same almost cybernetic connection with the phone so maybe we don't feel the same freak-out about the idea of the phone being so compromised.

Again... when it comes to people who can still touch their toes and such, you cannot mess with THE PHONE.

And saying, "nobody is listening to your phone calls" doesn't get it done because young people don't make "phone calls." (In the movie update of 21 JUMP STREET, a comedy, a 20-something calls a high school girl on the phone and she assumes it must be her grandmother because who makes phone calls?)

If we want to keep the support of the up and coming generations we need some freaking phone privacy legislation.

Yes, it will be a sham. But c'mon man... you already have the anti-terror cred from everyone you could possibly gain it from.

Get out in front of this thing some clever way.

who now says Obama either lies with pretty words or else he believes what he says but just lacks the ability to lead. Either way he is a dismal disaster.

...appoints Bush-era officials left and right, continues the national security snooping state and expands it.

Even the punt, which is basically what you're describing by setting the bar so low, is out of this man's reach. Actually, that's not entirely accurate. "Beyond his reach" would imply that he's reaching for a way out, a better way. He's not.

In short, he will continue to "mess with the PHONE." An idea right up there with touching cat buttholes.
