Hostess: Twinkies to return to shelves July 15

NEW YORK (AP) — Hostess is betting on a sweet comeback for Twinkies when they return to shelves next month.

The company that went bankrupt after an acrimonious fight with its unionized workers last year is back up and running under new owners and a leaner structure. It says it plans to have Twinkies and other snack cakes back on shelves starting July 15.

Based on the outpouring of nostalgia sparked by its demise, Hostess is expecting a blockbuster return next month for Twinkies and other sugary treats, such as CupCakes and Donettes. The company says the cakes will taste the same but that the boxes will now bear the tag line "The Sweetest Comeback In The History Of Ever."

"A lot of impostor products have come to the market while Hostess has been off the shelves," says Daren Metropoulos, a principal of the investment firm Metropoulos & Co., which teamed up with Apollo Global Management to buy a variety of Hostess snacks.

but it's got to be at least 10 years since I've had any of them and since I found out a rash and wheezing were from wheat allergy, I doubt I'll be sampling the comeback stuff.

I hope the unionized workers are back on the job and the whole flap wasn't just to break another union.

They got what they wanted at the expense of the workers. Of course this significant fact will not be mentioned by the corporate media. I find this disgusting, and hardly a cause for celebration. I'll bet a good chunk of the public would be turned off too, if they were told the facts.

The anti-union theme has been pushed so well that people think union people are overpaid. These folks don't figure out that they're underpaid.

I know if I was in a union, when my job was sent to India back in 2006, it would have at least caused the company a pause. My co-workers in France demanded a 2 year severance, they kept their jobs. And the company didn't even bother trying to convince the Japanese it would be ok to have layoffs.

So it only happened here.

the company liquidated -- they ceased operating, sold their assets to the highest bidder ad directed by a court, and paid creditors penny's on the dollar.

This is not hostess, its another bakery that bought the recipe's and rights to use the name. No one at hostess at the end (including management and investors) made anything, and in fact a lot of people (including union workers with pension funds) lost quite a bit.

pay and bonuses mostly financed by stealing the union pension.
It may be another company but the Hostess name will forever have a stench to it as far as I am concerned

Was to lower the quality of the ingredients........it was the beginning of the slow dive to the bottom that was meant to only repay the investors and liquidate the company
